2.7 vs 3.5?
I am considering buying a Magnum but have not had the chance to drive one. I'm wondering how much of a difference the 3.5 makes over the 2.7 Are there any other major differences between the SE and the STX. What are the HP ratings for these 2 motors? Are there any forums dedicated strictly to the Magnum?
Thanks for helping out the noob.

i currently have the 2.7 in my intrepid. mine has 200hp and 200 torque. i think the magnum version of the 2.7 has 190 hp and torque. i think it is because of the RWD thing. i have had 3 vehicles with the 3.5 in it. great engine. it is rated at 250hp and 250 torque. the 3.5 i had in Pacifica and the Pacifica hauled decent *** for being a minivan. the 2.7 i have now in a lighter car is way less effective then the 3.5. it is worth the extra money for the 3.5. there are also little extra features that are standard on the sxt over the SE.

This forum is very good. Another to check out are Dodge Magnum . net, however, it is offline for a few days for upgrade. Try it next week. Dodge talk . com is good. A helpful website is http://www.scoop.daimlerchrysler.com/default.php

Ahh...
.....you're at the same place I was about a month ago. I couldn't decide on the SE vs SXT. I was finally able to testdrive both to see what kind of differences they had.
I honestly found both to be quite good. The acceleration in the 3.5 was certainly better than the 2.7. However, I enjoyed both cars. Both have similar options, with the SXT having a couple extras. 8 way power drivers seat, tinted rear glass, and a couple other little things.
What made my mind up was the fact that the 2.7 (although seeming quite sufficient) would probably start to labor more as the miles accumulated. I could see that engine having to work hard to pull that big car around. I felt that the 3.5 could do this job better, and the price was only about 3 grand more (Canadian funds).
In a perfect world, we could all afford to go with the Hemi (and pay for the gas to run it), but with the SE and SXT as the choice....I'm glad I went with the SXT.
Hope this helps.

i had a rental that was a 2.7L, and honestly, i was dissappointed....i thought it would have a bit more spunk...i know its a lowline with the 2.7, but still...i loved the car itself...it was comfy, it suited my needs...just wasnt fast enough for me...
just to rehash a comment i made previously, as the owner of my secound 2.7 car from dodge/chrysler, the first was a concorde, the 2.7 is a high rpm motor. On the interstate i can run with most cars up to about 105. But at a stop light get emparssed by geo's, at least off the line, if I had the money I would have bought the sxt, but when I bought my SE the price gap was about $5,000 us. No mater which magnum you get you are still getting a great car.
i agree...i wasnt trying to talk down on anyones magnums....i thought it was a great car...

I have an SXT and it has more than enough power for the car. MPG is pretty good too. I added about 100# of stereo equipment. As for speed, it got me a 110.7 mph ticket, it was after topping out at 118. The only mod I have done is replacing the muffler with a Dynomax Ultraflo and removed the resonator. I was looking at the SE in the beginning and test drove one, was dissapointed. Best thing to do is test drive and see which is best for you.

Try out the RT while you're there... I bet if you cash in some season passes for the hockey games you can pay for the gas right there! (stereotype joke alert)
