Burnouts
This might not be the place to ask, but here goes.... I was watching TV and kept seeing RWD cars doing some burn outs. This is the first RWD car I have ever owned, and I have NO idea how to do one.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks, Allan

Dude be really careful....find an open parking lot with nothing in it! No light poles, no cars, no nothing. Turn the ESP off....hold brake....floor gas and see what you can do. Might take you a few tries to see how hard to hold down the brake so your car stays still but the rear tires can still spin. Doing doughnuts will be alot easier i think. Just turn the wheel to one side and floor it. Hold on too. Please make sure you do this somewhere safe with nothing you could hit. All of these things can be hard to control without alot of "practice" ---
Although i have never tried it in the R/T, somebody told me once that these cars won't do a burnout. Even with ESP off. Something about the computer trying to prevent drivetrain abuse. Doing these things definately causes drivetrain abuse. Be careful. Good luck.

Phil 385,
You must be joking! The RT not do Burnouts? You got a Lemon!
Batex,
Phil 385 is right, be careful. This damn car is too nice to wreck it burning out. Personally, I found an abandoned Office Building with a wide open parking lot. It's also on the way home, so I try to stop by when Traffic is heavy and I need to 'vent'. Tires slightly break loose with ESP on, but turn that sucker off and it will do what it shows in the Instrument Panel, lay two wavey solid marks behind you when you punch it. The process is just like Phil 385 explained, but avoid doughnuts, if you can, that's when things get WILD! Had my RT almost sideways just making a left hand turn with ESP Off. Also, be sure to note that other threads indicate that the RT releases power over time, and I have found that to be true. Now that I am over 5,000 miles, it does seem that it has loosened up a bit. Tires spin much easier now then when it was brand new. Have fun and be safe...

Sorry dude i've just never tried it.....i don't doubt at all it will actually do a burnout. Like i said i just heard that. No lemon over here. And as long as you don't hit anything you can do doughnuts all day long. No big deal they aren't that wild. Try it out, make sure you have alot of room....

Nice wide open space...that's the key. I actually learned how to control the car when the tires are in full spinout in the snow at my high school parking lot on the weekends. It's a great way to learn how to counter-steer, drive sideways, burnout, do doughnuts, higher speed burnouts, etc. Of course it's not exactly the same as on dry pavement, but you really get a good feel for what the tendencies of the car are when the wheels aren't in traction.
With my Mag I like to slightly tap on the brake, give full throttle, let off the brake and burnout for 100 feet down the empty parking lot. I've done a few non-moving burnouts, but I think it's more exhilerating to be movin' while burnin'!
chrisuscga01, burn outs don't ruin them unless you do it a LOT and glaze the pads. They also ruin the tires. It also sucks lots of gas (and at close to 3 bucks a gallon-OUCH) But hey! sometimes fun comes at a cost, and that's what these cars are all about FUN! [sm=happy046.gif]
