MAGNUM RT - GOT IT BACK AFTER 2 WEEKS AT THE DEALER
If you look on the next page, you will see the post "How many people already got theirs" from about a month ago. This spells out the story.
Anyway, my Magnum had an accelerator problem 4 weeks ago and my wife backed into our other car in the driveway. I thought it was her fault at first, but realized rather quickly that it was the cars fault. When depressing the accelerator down with the car in reverse (once in a blue moon), the engine will not respond until the peddle is somewhere between 30 and 50% depressed. Well, once it does respond, it responds quite violently.
I took the car to the dealer and reported the problem to Dodge. The dealer looked at it and could not get a repeat. Dodge sent someone from out of town to look at the car a week ago. They plugged in their computer. I talked to the guy but he said he is not a Dodge employee and he could not disclose any findings.
The dealer would not so much as replace any of the throttle sensors or anything to do with the problem without seeing the problem occur again. I have a big problem with this. I had the car a week when this happened and 800 miles on the car.
I would really prefer a new car given the jolt that the Magnum took.
The car was repaired at MY expense. I feel that Dodge should at a minimum pay for damage to both vehicles and also replace any sensors/parts dealing with the throttle. I do not want to be subject to this occurring again.
I am rather POd at Dodge / Chysler given the fact that NOONE from Dodge has contacted me. I have sent in via email to Dodge a request of a personal contact and a listing and disclosure of all problems. Noone has contacted me, although i do have about 10 emails back from a Dodge Customer support person, saying sorry and someone will call you. It is about 28 days later.
Other than this, i do love the car. I know that things happen, especially with new models, i just want resolution from Dodge on the matter and someone to actaully talk to other than the service manager at the dealer who is programmed to follow Dodge procedure.
Any advise or disclosure of similar problems would be apprcieated.
Again, my original post is on the following page.
Thanks,
Mel

Mel. My name is Todd and I live in Garner NC, and work for the City of Raleigh.
Sorry to hear about your problems, and an unusual one it is. I'm guessing that the Magnum has the same fly-by-wire system that the trucks have. It sounds to me that they are aware that something is happening. I have to agree with that they should change the throttle position assembly, and the pedal position sensor.
Have you had any further occurences since you made the trip to the dealer?

Our standard procedure is not to shotgun repairs. If we cannot verify the concern then we cannot fix it-there are several reasons for this not the least of which is if we just throw parts at vehicles it sets them up for lemon buy-back(yes some owners get what is refered to as post purchase stiker shock and just want out of their contract)
DodgeMech,
Post sticker shock is not the problem. I paid cash for the car. I make good money. My concern here is that this problem is not like the rear end makes a noise.. The mechanic does not make a repair until they positively hear the problem. I understand that. My concern (and my attorneys) is that this problem has repeated about 6 times, none of which the mechanics have seen, but my insurance appraiser sat in the car when it happened and it ludged backwards about 10 feet. His report explicitly says "I witnessed the accelerator pedal depressed nearly to the floor before any engine response was felt. The engine response was harsh and it is my professional opinion that there is definately a major mechanical failure with the vehicle."
In addition to this.......say the car goes 6 months with no problems...People forget (my wife). Say she needs to back up a foot and then drive forward out the drive. The kids are 10' behind the car. The foot very quickly becomes 10'. We have a problem here. I have notified Dodge of these concerns and this would put them in a postion where if i sued them due to a problem like this, they would be liable for punitive damages. Big problem. I don't want this, i want the potential problem rectified.
I would think they would look at a problem like this a little more seriously, especially since my car was one of the first sold.

I have had some unexpected throttle ups. Never in reverse. It seems to happen when I'm barely coasting up a hill, then when I give it some gas then it jumps up to about 3k RPMs. It has never been what I would consider unmanageable, but it does surprise you sometimes if you don't know to expect it. It has happened multiple times when I'm at this one particular intersection where you yield to the main road, but you have to creep up because you can't see the on coming cars due to a slight grade.
Sounds like this may be specific to the RT/Hemi equipped Magnum. I have an SXT, 3.5 liter, have put almost 2000 miles on it already and have not experienced any throttle problems like this at all. I wish you luck in your pursuit of satisfaction.

Well I was on vacation this weekend and my wife was driving and I was sitting next to her, when we stopped when a blazer in front of us stopped on the road, when we stoped and waited a few seconds the blazer started to back up, my wife put the car in reverse and pushed on the gas and the car acted like as it was in nuetral, she got a little panicky and started yelling that the car won't go, when all of the sudden it took off, she had given the car gas when it all the sudden it engaged and we took off. I was not in the driver seat, but from what I saw it was a litltle scary. mine is a sxt by the way. That is the only time it has happened, if the was anyone behind us I am sure we would have hit them.
I had my car a week when the Air bag light went off, the motor stalled, and the radio went blank for a little bit. I took it to the shop, they said they had a TSB about the stalling and my computer had about 7 error codes in the computer. They think its from the factory forgetting to reset the comp or tripping some codes at the factory. I only had 240 miles on the car, actually I only have 450 on it now. They just set the computer back to new and off I went. No problems yet, I have an SXT, and have yet to see the reverse problem. I have to back the car out of my driveway every time I go anywhere. But granted I dont have the miles on the car yet.
