What were you all recommending the ARP head studs for the REX mount or the Prothane inserts? Which one does it go on?

I was talking about the head bolts and Squee was saying "by who."

You all have told me a little about the mounts but I still don't know how much vibration and noise to expect. I was about to order the Prothane (street) mount inserts but I figured, if there are mounts that give you more torque and the vibration is rated harder (but the vibration isn't that bad to you all) I might as will get the harder ones. For example, someone said you might as well get the Prothane (racing) instead of the (street) because the vibration isn't that bad.

To sum it up, I've heard good things about the Rex mount and the Prothane mounts. Should I get one of them or both? Which will I get more torque out of?

I've decided my next major mod will be the computer so I figure I will need mounts to benefit me more.

The reason I was thinking about getting the Rex because I heard great things about them as far as performance, but horrible things when it came to the vibrations. Some said the vibrations were ok and some said it was really bad especially with the AC on. Please give me a little more input.

I have all three REX in my first gen and a Mopar perf bobble strut (like I needed it after the inserts!). I would say the vibrations will be very noticeable. In time there are little pieces of the dash and console that have very high pitched rattles. However, for me I've found that in fifth gear at cruising anywhere from 60 to 85 that the rattles are sort of canceled out--IE: not so bad. Most all my cars are noisy because I've had to rebuild several of them. I personally don't mind the rattles in the Neon--especially since with no window frame you tend to hear more wind noise than rattles. But just be aware that there are draw backs.
. . . It's not the car I would take the managers out to lunch in, that's for sure.

Are you saying the Rex made most of the noticable vibrations. You have 3 Rex's though; what If I got one? Will that even help? Should I stick with the Prothane street or racing mount inserts if I want performance (torque) but not heavy vibrations?

Squee,

Wow! Thanks for that advice (I didn't think of that)[:@]. Thanks for being so specific [>:] because that took a lot of brain power.

The point of me talking about that was to learn (if I'm clueless) and find out what things are (and not get a smart remark and expect to learn from it).

When I thought of the head studs, the first thing I thought it was for was the header. If the header is what you are talking about, this whole post wasn't about the header (meaning I didn't care about the header or studs for it at the time). So why would I be recommended head studs when I'm not talking about that? That's why I thought maybe there might be another place they go and I am confused. That's what I was thinking.

EVEN if I am still wrong and you aren't talking about the header, your smart remark of a reply wasn't needed because it didn't help what so ever. Even if I don't know what the head is, that's why I am trying to learn and find things out (so don't sum it up with the word that is included in my question). I pretty much figured that out.

If you feel I am asking a dumb question and feel like adding a smart remark, keep it to yourself. I like everyones advice including your advice Squee, but not smart remarks (in case you didn't know).

My point is, you didn't help with your last post.

He's talking about the cylinder head, not the header. And I don't think he was poking fun at you...i guess it was more like a joke. Squee just likes to help.

I see what you mean. If it's a joke, he should have put a smile next to it. It seemed to me like he was serious. When I think about it, I can see it as a joke. There is more than just 1 head on a car. Cylinder head is what I was looking for.

Hey Lblack. If you buy the front one, yes it will make quite a difference. It will allow the sides to still rotate, and that might be good (for a comfort level issue). The front mount is the one that breaks the most and causes the most problems for traction in my experience. (Replaced it twice before I put in inserts and the last one I bought was a Moper Perf one--that's what's in there right now with the insert.)

I can't speak from personal experience for the Prothane, but the principle is the same--take out a lot of the flex (and vibration absorbtion) from the mounts. I think they would be pretty equally noisy (vibrate).

On the other hand. . . if you can live with some vibes it sure makes the drivetrain and shifting feel solid.
