Default Attack of the rattle can?!

So the paint on my 01 SE is chipping and flaking pretty bad on the front edge of the hood, as well as the exposed front fender.

I searched the forms for a basic how to: repainting with spray paint.
I just want a primer black car, what all do i need, do i really need to sand the entire body?

I'm just tired of seeing the faded paint and rust

You don't really need to look under these forums. There are websites devoted to information on autobody repair.

true but if your doing a rattle can paint job you only have to sand where you want the paint to stick. The paint and coatings on your car are usually so smooth paint won't stick in a thick coat unless you sand everything. Careful with overspray.

If you do it right it can look ok. But if you ever want to get it repainted the prep will be more involved. Meaning more $$$
