Common Dodge Neon Repairs and Problems
I recently bought a '95 dodge neon, not srt. The girl that had it before me put new headlights in herself. When I put on my blinker my 4 way flashers come on. I had them switched back, thinking it would help. No luck. Can someone tell me how to fix this problem? If you want you can email me at aleole@ymail.com. I would be much more convenient than checking this forum. Thank you
aleole take the bottom cover off the steering column, disconnect the battery, then find the connectors for the multifuntion switch. Diconnect them and look for signs of melting or corrosion. That is most likely the problem. You can find good plugs in the jy or maybe the dealer.
JB1980, have you checked the a/c drain to see if it is plugged. The drain is on the lower firwall in the engine compartment on the passengers side. Looks like and is a little rubber tube. They tend to get plugged with leaves and debris. You may need to run something up the tube to clear it. The tube is black and is sometimes a lil hard to see unless you know it's there. Any moisture that collects in the HVAC housing can and will flow into the floor if it;s plugged. If your a/c smells moldy or musty, I bet that's what is going on.

2005 Dodge Neon Sxt-Shifting/slight knocking noise issues only has 68,000 miles
Never had a problem with this car, til 2 weeks ago,
Ill explain. I have noticed on take off or slowing down(coasting) the 1st and 2nd gears was off abit (it would Jerk you a little bit forward.)
2 weeks ago it was a "rainy" morning. Coasted to a stop sign 15 mph, it went into 1 st gear and wouldt come out til I turned the engine off and back on.
Shifting was fine after that but engine light was on. I let it sit 2 hours, reseted the engine light.
Took it back out agin went 3 miles came to a stop light, took off and it shifted to second gear and stuck there til i turned the engine off. (AGAIN--- Engine light still on but shifting fine.)
I got a free diagnostic, said "Solenoid". Talked With Ammaco,by time I got it in there later that day the warning light went off.
Took it anyway. they test drove it... said it had a slight shifting 1st and 2nd gears on take off, wasn't powering up.
Explained the torque converter wasn't getting enough power from selinoid to make it get up and go properly, to change the Solenoid.
went to pick up the car he said he partially broken part of the connector that plugs into the selinoid.. and had fixed it. no charge.
Ran better for 2 weeks, til it rained again 2 days ago, b/f comes back that morning from work had no trouble.
I take it, only to go 3 miles again to the same d*mn light, after a complete stop, it shifts to 1st gear when i go to take off.
I take it back to the Tech who put it in, dianostic code said Solenoid.
I go with him for a drive. Nothing happens.
Take it back I asked ?s about wiring, transmission senors or others???? might be getting wet (to short)and making the computer to bring up errors.
He couldn't tell me nothing much at that point but only it could be a wiring issue. but would be hard to find if it isn't bringing up a code.
I get 2 miles down the road,(40-45 mph) I hear the faint knocking sound(passenger side floor board).
Im like what is that? The car flips into neutral, it slams into 1st gear when trying to come to a stop..
I automaticlly take it back while it was in first gear, he puts it back on the machine, and it reads code po760. Advised me to Take it to the dealer (dodge) because it might be the Control module. OK.
I just took it to a dodge dealer 3-11-11.
Short reading diagnostic states, po700-po760,
Tech test drove it, sprayed with water underneath, check quickly over the connection to selinoid. Nothing he did tripped any codes.
Results and responses of his findings:
**** They told me that the Solenoid connector has a bolt hold it in place. WTF????
1.transmission fluid looked a little dirty.
They said the slight shifting issue between 1st and 2nd can be resolved by doing an upgrade scan on computer. IS this true, has anyone done this?
They didn't eliberate on the torque converter. Said something about it possible effect????
is that the slight knocking sound i hear sometimes now when i reach 40-45 mph?? This is crazy because these issues are not constant.... so its like when i explan it they are looking at me after wards like im crazy... its not happening.
They said at this point they do not think its the Control MODULE.
Where do i find another wiring harness for the Solenoid to price it in case to I need to change it? Or is there other possbilities to look at?
Because what i think it big issue is becasue of this stupid tech breaking the connector partially, and holding it on with a nut or bolt, its faulting the computer.
what are your suggestions to look for
while this current codes are coming up?
Not fimiliar with dodge, or automatic transmissions, always had manual. any ideas would help and would be greatly appreciated.
thanks

I dont really believe in gremlins but I do believe in ghosts, for all you having elecrical problems could be a simple a fix as to flash the computer.
Simple do it yourself solution is to disconnect the battery cables for a few minutes. Option; a mechanic with a good engine analyzer can do it for you and note any codes prior to re-setting everything...if that doesnt work then it must be gremlins...good luck

Be informed before you take your car anywhere, sometimes and maybe especailly so for a young female like yourself it would be best to go directly to a dodge delaer for repairs, get an estimate before having anything done and ask questions...if youre not comfortable with the answer or you feel the least bit intimidated seek out another mechanic you can trust ask around there ARE mechanics that wont burn you.
