!!!Questions about neons!!!
When did the LS1 ever make 400 HP in a camaro? It didn't so don't even try. The most you would be looking at stock is 325 which would equal out to about 487.5 with the same 50% increase. Yeah I know 600hp is easy aquired but you said just a SC so try to at least get the facts right. And yes I admit 487hp is still a lot of power.
Does 435 hp sound a little better. I know another altima owner that has put that down at the wheels running 20 psi and it wasn't totally tuned yet. Thats out of a 2.4 DOHC 16 valve (starting to sound like an SRT) with a custom made turbo kit and a TEC III standalone fuel management system. Along with a fully built bottom end. And many more modifacations I don't remember and don't have the time to post.

Hey dude, didnt mean to **** you off! I didnt mean a stock LS1, i meant modified. I guesstimated 400 hp after upgrades. I havent checked it on my dyno program. I still think trying to trick out a 4 banger isnt worth it. Just look at what you are doing to the 2.4 for 435 hp. 20 psi of boost? Try all that on a V8 and then check your hp again. You will be quiet pleased.
Again, not meaning to start any flame wars, its just my and many other hot rodders opinions on the matter.

It's simple mathematics. Start with more displacment, start with more power, throw $$ at it, end with more power. No one should get offended at this. It just depends on your preference and your starting budget.
IE: That's why there's a 400 small block in my camaro--nice cheap way to get 400 HP. (It's naturally aspirated). But that's also why I have the Spirit R/T and why I am interested in a swap in my neon--it's kinda fun to embarrass more expensive big cars and it's also pretty neat to get a little better mileage doing it. Also, my neon rounds the corner like it's tethered, and the camaro (even though I've done quite a bit to better handling) is still a 1960's slug through the turns.

Thats the way I prefer to build hot rods. My neon is fun for a daily driver, but not the "best" motor to get power out of. The torque is just not there.
As far as handling, thats the reason I chose an early 4th gen Corvette for my buildup. That thing drives like theres glue on the rode with independant rear suspension.
Sorry I didn't mean to be an ***. I just freak out sometimes
. I love V8s I wouldn't be putting one in an S10 if I didn't. I just took your comments the wrong way, sorry. If you want torque out of a 4cyl. you gotta drive an altima. Both of mine have tons of torque. I love going to the drag strip and being able to run 3 tenths of second fast then most second gen integras. They get so pissed when they get waxed by a four door car.

That's sweet! I have that '95 Jimmy I've been trying to find time to put in an LT1 and six speed in for about a year now. Unfortunately both my house and now a very needy Brother-in-law have put that project on pause. (He is going bankrupt so I told him to sell his car to get rid of the loan and use mine for six months to . . . ??? who knows when.)
Good luck!
