Default Tow Hitch Question on a 2500

I very recently purchased the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Quad Cab 5.9 Liter Cummins Turbo Diesel truck brand spanking new from a dealership. However, two of the salesmen told me that the hitch that came with the truck is a class 3 hitch. This is rated up to 5000 lbs -- nowhere near the capacity of my RV. I need the class 4 hitch (even better, a class 5). I've asked a few people about this and they said it sounded odd that a new a 2500 HD diesel truck would only come with a class 3 hitch. Hell, the Kia Minivan comes with a class 3. There aren't any stickers on the hitch indicating its class. Does this sound right to you guys or are the salesmen wrong? Where else can I look to determine the class of the hitch?

Don't know about the 07, but my 06 has a hitch good for 10k according to the manual.

I just called the dealership and they said that the hitch is factory installed. I looked in the manual which rates towing up to 10,000 lbs (a class IV). Its interesting how two of the salesmen got this wrong.

Not interesting at all. There has only been a single time that I have gone to a dealership and not known more than the salesman, and that was when I was buying my little econo box, commuter, Ford Focus. I still don't know $hit about it, I don't care, I put gas in it and I'll drive it 'till it blows up. Disposable car that saves miles on my truck.

To me, if you go in to a dealership NOT knowing more than the salesman, you give him the upper hand at the table. It's funy to watc somebody squirm when they are outside their comfort zone and can't speak from their power base.

Salespeople are professional liars. It is amazing that they sell trucks at all, they don't seem to know s**T from shinola about them. Simply amazing.

When I ordered my 2007 Ram 2500 in March, the only factory hitch available was a Class IV. The other guys are probably right; your salesman got it wrong.

10K is correct, why would they put a hitch on a truck that can't handle half ofthe truck'sown weight when the truck itself can pull 3X it's own weight.
