one more thing to add.. i have been going down enough of a grade where my mechanical controller would lock up the trailer brakes yet my vehicle brakes were barely engaged.. that wasnt a great feeling... i think the solid state controllerswon't do that

Also watch out when wiring the brake controller to the harness on the truck. I don't know if the colors match up on the dodge's, but I tried to install one in a chevy work truckand learned the hard way that matching colors fries the controller. Ended up the blue wire was the only one that matched up. The rest had to be switched around. The directions with the controller and the harness should each have a wiring diagram to go by. Just something to keep in mind.

Yes, that's why I took the easy way out and paid the extra $15 for the Dodge harness with both connectors already attached for a true plug and play - no wire matching, crimping or solderingnecessary.... Ijust have to find the best place to locate it and is why I am seeking opinions/advice from those who have already mounted a Prodigy in their Ram.

I just picked up a dual axle triler that was used. I checked all the wires on the trailer leading to the brakes and they are fine. My question is do you need the contoller to check to see if you are getting voltage to the trailer?

Most controllers with the LED's will display voltage going to the trailer brakes. You can check the amout needed by driving a short distance and using the manual lever to activate the brakes to see how much you should set the voltage to in relation to a firm stop (without locking the trailer brakes). Depending on what unit you have the operation varies, but the Owner's manual should tellyou for certain. It's easier than it may sound.
