Have you guy's seen the movie Shooter yet with Mark Walberg?

What did you think of his mile + shot? Do any of you have a gun like that?
I have read the book years ago but I have not yet seen the movie. I made a rifle in college that has a match grade .308 win barrel on it, custom stock, custom trigger and custom taper scope mount. I have shot a 3/8" group at 200yds with it and have taken prairie dogs at 500yds with one shot. Can't wait to see the movie.

I have not seen the movie, but it sounds interesting. I am somewhat doubtful anytime I hear aboutsomeone hitting a human-sized target at 1,500+ yards with a single rifle shot, althoughMarine Sniper Carlos Hathcock was apparentlyable to do it in Vietnam.

If you look at the math, a 180-gr .308 bullet drops about 50" at 500 yards and about 500" at 1000 yards. You would have to aim high in the sky to hit anything at 1,500 yards.

Maybe if you had a rifle chambered in .338 Lapua Mag or .338 A-Square you could hit targets out to a mile. As I recall, Hathcock used a M-2 .50 BMG with a scope on it.

You "gun nuts" ( ) should check out the movie. Since it was filmed in Philly I saw it on opening night, but it really is a good movie.

One thing he did that I thought was pretty cool. He made a silencer out of what looked like a soda bottle with a tee shirt or something stuffed inside of it and it worked. I thought that was pretty cool.

Check it out when you get a chance !!

Try a .338 lapua (supposed to fill the gap between 300win mag and the 50) however because rounds are very spendy and hard to come by, nobody knows about it. This thing can make head shots a mile away on a windy day!!! Armalite makes one called the ar30.

What return is right! I'm with you on the tax burden that we all face. This is the second year I had to pay extra. The Alternitive Minimum Tax schedule nailed me this year. It started in the late 60's and affected about 12 people. Because it's not adjusted for inflation, it pulls in about 20,000 people a year. Basically in a nut shell , the IRS took away my allowable deductions like home mortgage interest and such.
I'm self employed so to speak and I pay my taxes quarterly. You really connect with whats going on when you have to physically write a check to the state and feds every quarter.
