it's dead center on the bottom of the big black pan directly below the engine. you need to use a 3/8" drive rachet to loosen/tighten. basically look for a round plug with a square recess in it.

Thanks mucho - I did finally figure it out - thought it was a rubber/something kind of plug till I banged on it and discovered it was metal. There is a good site with some tips on how to get the filter off the first time too since it is welded to the engine with paint most of the time...a 1/2 drive wrench with an extension and a strap wrench - loosen it from above - saves the knuckles.

that first oil change is a pain since the filter is laqured on. after that it is easy.

also, be carefull when you tighten up the drain plug. . .if you put too much muscle behind that wrench you'll 1. snap the head off, 2. strip the head out, 3. crack the dang thing which leads to an even larger mess.

Yeah - like they welded the thing on at the factory. Any preferences for filter brands? I found a site with a nice set of really good instructions for getting the filter off the first time but I can't find the address right now - I'll post it when I find it because it helped with the filter nonsense a lot. Now on to the fuel filter...

go to geno's garage. . .they have the best price on fleetguard filters(a division of Cummins)

the best way to get that first filter off is to use one of those fluted filter wrenches. . .

While your there, pick yourself up one of these to replace your drain plug and then you won't have to worry about stripping your pan out ...
