Default Dealer installing my exhaust brake today.

Well as the subject says the dealer is installing my Jacobs exhaust brake today. Can't wait to see how it does on my trip to North Carolina. I was talking to the service manager and transmission man about my concerns with the 48 re. They told me they have had very little problems with it. The only problems they have seen was self abuse from racing and people pulling large loads with the tow mode not on ect. Well we will see how see does in the mountains pulling a 36ft 10,500# camper.

Nope. It came from Cummings. Same brake they put on at the factory.

Oh, the one that comes on the newer Rams? I didn't know it was a Jacobs brake. That's COOL !!

A guy I know has one and he loves it. I think you will too, especially pulling that kinda weight.

Mayfair,

The one on the new 6.7's is integrated into the turbo itself.

The one he is talking about, the Jacobs brake, is a Mopar approved accessory. The dealers carry them and can install them.

Gotcha

That's COOL !!

You hafta activate it by hand? You flick a switch or something, is that how it works? Similar to sliding the lever over on an electric trailer brake?

Sorry , I've never seen one before.

it has an arming switch, and works off a signal from the ECM. when it see 0volt from the TPS it activates the brake closing off the exhaust stream increasing back pressure.

normal "Jake Brakes" OTR trucks use are integrated into the valves and open the exhaust valves TDC on the compression stroke of the piston.

So you would flick the switch at the top of the hill, and then un-flick it once you got to the bottom right?

or you would leave it on all the time so when you want the brake to engage you just let off the throttle
