Wow, what a day wheeling...
Got to meet MeanGreen (Mike) & his friend Tim, motored on up the sierra's and headed into the Lake Sterling area and then ultimately down to Fordyce Lake. Heading in we found a spot where Mike peeled off to get some real action pics... I have one of his Durango's front end airborne... he beat it pretty good on the mound he was climbing over. The trail down to Fordyce was not too bad, Mike & Tim followed me down until we reached the lake. We stopped a couple of times for some pictures along the way as the sights were pretty awesome. We stopped @ the lake for lunch and it started to snow/hail, not sure what you'd call it but it looked alot like dippin dots. best way to describe it was little frozen snow ***** that easily crushed when put between the fingers.
We headed out to the dam at Fordyce & the snow really started coming down. When we 1st got to the dam you could easily see across the lake, within 10~12 minutes it snowed so hard the other side of the lake was hard to see. As we headed out the snow started covering the trail in some spots adding to the fun. Once we were back to the top of the hill we headed down to Sterling to have a look. Plenty of fresh snow on the ground (about 1/2~3/4" I think, didnt really look @ it too hard), and man was it cold! Being from Sacramento & June, I didnt think to wear long pants so I was in shorts. I did bring a couple of long sleeve shirts though which barely helped.
At Sterling Louie decided to brave the cold water & went for a swim... no life jacket required, no leash, he did awesome (some of you know that he cant really swim to well and needed a vest for assistance while he improves his skills... he sinks like a rock) We played fetch with him for a while & then went to the top of the ridge to have a look at Fordyce from above... taking more pics along the way.
When we headed out we decided to try to get back to Lola Montez (sp?) lake which was on the other side of the mts, we had to climb over a 7000+ summit to get there only to find large patches of snow that were a little difficult to get thru so we bailed on it as Mike was low on gas. I did manage to get my truck stuck in the 1st patch before powering thru to the other side... only to decide to bail on it and head down the hill. Going down the hill was alot of fun... put it in 3rd & jammed pretty quick until we got back to the sterling turnoff. (There were a few atv's & a couple of 4x4's up there as well).
all in all a great day, I had a blast..
Oh yeah, my tranny issue... seemed to hold up pretty well in 4x4 low, on the way back however it went from bad to worse... looks like I get to decide what to do sooner rather than later... made it home but not to sure if I should be driving it after the way it was shifting so I'll have to look at it tomorrow...
