Thanks for the info on fram filters. I have always used them on my V-8's, & never had a problem. I think I used 1 on the '92 that I just sold. I'll have to tell the guy. What brand should I use on my '99?

The fram filters thing has no proof to its existence. They dont break up. why would they on a 5.9 cummins with 35 psi oil pressure? Im a heavy equipment tech and we have used BIG fram filters (3 times the size of the 5.9 one) and they work fine. There are only like 3 filter manufacturers. Some companies pay fram and others to paint filter differently.

FYI, Dodge has proof and proven that Fram oil filters have failed on the Cummins 5.9L engine. IIRC the Fram filter media was sucked up in to the oil pump and in to the internal oil galleys. Also Fram oil filters are still not on the Dodge approved filter list put out by Dodge back in 2001 for the Cummins engine. IIRC at start up a cold Cummins engine with 15w40 oil can have a lot more then 35 PSI oil pressure.

I've been useing the Fleetguard Strat filters and I've been very happy with them. I believe NAPA also has a filter that's OK to use.

Here is a list of filters that should work well on a 5.9L Cummins engine, AC Delco, Donaldson/Amsoil, Fleetguard, Mopar, Motorcraft, Purolater and Wix.
