I know that many of us have strong opinions about engine oil. What do you fellas use?

For the first oil change on my truck I have a case of the newAmsoil 5w-40 CJ-4 synthetic diesel oil ready to go.

 

when are you doing ur first oil change?? mileage i mean. because it really isn't recommended to put synthetic in a CTD until ur past ten thousand miles or more. mainly because it takes these engines a long time to break in and the synthetic can inhibit the ability for the parts of the engine to fit to each other. either way I hear good things about rotella and amsoil all the time. although maybe on the 6.7 it's ok to use synthetic real early.

My 2007 owner's manual says to change the oil at 7,500 miles under the severe usage schedule and at 15,000 miles under the normal usage schedule. The manual also says that the onboard computer is supposed to tell you when to change your oil based on the driving conditions, but says it will not exceed 7,500 miles.

At any rate, I'll probably go to AMSOIL synthetic at 7,500 miles.

 

Did Delo 400 here. I'll go synthetic when I hit my 3rd change at 22K.

 

If you have worked the engine real hard in the first 7500 miles you should be able to switch over to synthetic oil with out any problems and if not then I would wait a lot longer to switch over. My self I would check to see when the engine was made and how many miles and months are on the factory oil before I would trust it for more then 1000 miles. Also before the truck hits the lot your engine could of went through several temp changes and have a lot of idle time on it so why take a chance leaving the factory oil in for up to 7500 miles? So IMHO just change it and know for sure you have good oil in it as when I got mine the oil was 8 months old and 50 miles on it and no way would I trust it to be much good for much more then 1000 miles.

 

am going to change mine this wekend I am going to use rotella this time and get on the preferred amsoil for the next one so I get a decent price, don't forget to use a good filter. DO NOT USE FRAM. napa gold is good, wix, and there are more but I am just waking up and still groggy (darn kids)

Im changing every 7500 miles. Whats the milage the rest of you guys are changing oil at? And do you change the fuel filter at the same interval?

 

Amsoil all the way my friend isa dealer so i get it pretty cheap from him which is really nice i use it in everything
