I recommend a lawyer to help out... an internal failure like that should be covered regardless of what you do to it.so whatif your motor has mud on the outside of it, it thru a rod while towing your trailer... that is an internal problem covered under warranty.

you need to tell them they need to get their story straight. . .first it's a blown turbo, now a thrown rod. . .was there anything in that hole where the rod was bent/thrown??? I would also look at the rod, it could have been a defective piece from the factory and wouldnt be the first, nor the last part that would fail, yet pass QAQC.

Maybe you should go down there and collect your truck & motor and take it to an independent shop for analysis. document the findings and get help from an attorney (if there is one that does this kind of work).

I'd call BS on everything that happened from the dealership and take it to someone I trusted. I've got more mud on my truck right now, and in the engine bay, than I ever had before and its from driving down 5 miles of dirt road after three inches of rain. It sounds like they're letting every tech in the place look at the truck and make up a fairytale about what might have happened and seeing which one it the craziest. I'd do what the other guys are saying and get it out of there and start documenting everything and go from there.

Hey, Call a lawyer, Document everything. First go to court against dodge saying this is bull since it's under warrantee. Say they keep changing the story and that it didn't appear to even go into the mechanic bay at the first dealership and so on and so forth. Why don't I like dealerships I'll never know.

This is an interesting thread. I am looking to buy a diesel truck to tow my new 21' boat.6,000 lbs with gear, trailer.

Have had 2 Dodges with Cummins and two Ford F350's one with a 7.3 and one with the 6.0.

I last owned a Dodge in 2001, had a 2500 with a cummins. With 20,000 miles on the engine, the engine developed a knock. Went into the Dodge dealer in Cheyenne, WY, they told me I had a stuck valve and I would need to drive to John Elway Dodge in Denver, dropped the truck off the following morning in Denver. They called later that afternoon and told me I would need a new short block. I surmised my base warranty or extended warranty would cover this. They told me it would cost me $12,000.00 out of my pocket as I had a Jiffy Lube oil filter on it. As Jiffy Lube was not Mopar this voided the warranty. Called my dealer at the time in Vancouver, WA, they got on the phone with Daimler Chrysler said they had told me I could use any filter as long as I changed oil regularily. Still they denied warranty.

Finally I had them saw the filter in half to prove that is was not clogged. Then they said warranty was denied as I had not changed oil frequently. Had receipts in the truck for every 5,000 miles. Once I got my lawyer involved they miraculously ponied up for a new short block. Turns out the the casting had not been machined properly and a piece of the casting broke off and scored the #5 cylinder. The new short block leaked all the way home and I traded for an F350 Super Duty. Needless to say this left a bad taste for Dodge products.

For those of you reading this, what is your confidence level in the Dodge product today and their willingness to back up their products? I have always liked the Dodge product but confidence is badly shaken. Thanks for your input.
