I got a wensday engine
Well, with 33K on the odo my enigine bit it. While towing our travel trailer up I-85 the engine started knocking hard just outside Atlanta Monday night. I had it towed to the nearest dealership since its under warranty. Somehow the oil seems to have disappeared since I changedit a month ago. There are no leaks and there is no burning. All the gauges were normal the entire time. They still haven't started working on it because Cummins won't let them until they're sure its their fault. Appearantly "Cummins' don't break down, you must have done something wrong". Anyone else have an issue so early with their trucks?
Anyway, I finally got my gauges installed last week and I'll post pics when my truck is running.

Not yet, appearantly I just dumped 13qts of oil on the engine instead of in it [:@]. Right now we're spending $100 a day to rent a vehicle to toat everyone around and another $200 for hotel rooms since the camper is stuck in the dealer's back lot. We might tow it home and have it fixed at our local dealership instead of me paying formore nights at a hotel. Luckily we have our 2500 to come get the truck and trailer.
Crap that sucks dude. No oil in her.... and you changed it last! That is gonna be one hard argument. I can change my own oil (of course), but my dealership does it for 49.95. I let them do it just for this reason. Sorry dude I am no help at all.
If there is no sign of it on the underbody, I would check the exhaust system to see if there is any residue (turbo seal pumping it out the exhaust) or check the intercooler (same as before except for it leaving through the compressor side) to see if it is sitting in the intercooler.
Good luck,

If it went into the fuel it would still be burning. My grandpa had a bad cummins once, but that was in a semi and was years ago. That one kept scoring the pistons, but it turned out the oil holes weren't drilled all the way through on one of the cylinders. I can see why cummins wants to investigate it though, the minimum when they design and build anything is a million miles, well that's what my buddy said that works there. This may be a stupid question, but how often do you check your oil? I've never needed to add anything, but I still check it at least every time I fill up. It probably was burning a little and just gradually burnt up enough to cause damage. I'm sorry to hear about that, but I'm sure cummins will stand by their engine, their name means everything to them.
My Mom has a '00 CTD that the same thing happened to her... but the oil filter came loose and it was gone in no time. She didn't have any warning either, no check engine, no oil pressure loss. The biggest difference is that my mom hadn't changed her oil in over 2 years (only 3k miles, she doesn't use it much). She only had 60k on hers, I think (maybe a bit more, but definately <80k), but it wasn't under warranty since it happened this year.
That sucks either way... Hope it gets straightened out

yea sounds like you're gonna eat it good on thie one. I don't see any way they will warranty fix that. I trust that you were smart enough to add oil but the dealer and cummins are gonna see it as your fault.
