Yes, when mine is regenerating the EGT is higher than normal. At highway speed on a straight and level stretch, instead of the normal 700-850 degrees it will be 900-1050 during regen.

What exactly IS "regen mode"?

I've heard it mentioned a couple of times now and I'm not sire if I get it. Does the truck raise the temp of the exhaust somehow to burn off some soot or something every once in a while?

How ??

you pretty much got it. . .the DPF collects the soot that is created from the combustion of diesel. after a while the injectors will fire again at some point in the combustion process to raise temps so this carbon in the DPF will be burned off.

And what ... be released as SOOT ???

I don't get it ... why bother? Isn't there any way of eliminating this annoying stupid POS ??

well. . .think of it like charcoal. . .the soot that is being collected is just carbon, like charcoal. . .you would think it wouldnt hold a flame but it does, same thing with the DPF, it will burn the carbon into CO2.

I installed mine after the turbo, however some folks here like to install it in the manifold so that they can see exactly what the temps are comming from the motor. I installed it after the turbo because I wanted to know when it was ok to shut down after towing.

both have their positives. pre turbo lets you see the EGT's comeing out of the cylinders and you can tell real quick if your about to burn up the turbo. post turbo lets you see what the turbo is seeing.
