Manual Hubs
I was wondering if anyone has installed manual locking hubs. I was thinking that it might save some diesel and some wear and tear on the front end. If anyone has done this: What brand did you install? Was it worth it?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Hey there, Dynatrac makes a hub conversion kit, it's about $1800 in parts, and something I've been considering myself, for economy, and the ability to have 2-wheel low range to save the clutch backing heavy trailers up hills and around corners. Somthing I want to do, but at the moment insufficiant fundulations prevent it. Good luck,
here's another option... http://www.emsoffroad.com/index1.htm about $1300~1400 bux...
Thanks for the input guys. I was just wondering about the options. I think it would pay off in the long run, but that a lot of cash up front. I'll let you know if I decide to do it.
takes the servicing of the front hubs from approx $400 bux down to $40 bux, much cheeper. allows the 2 front's to spin freely w/o driving the axle which helps on mpg (supposedly). I'm considering yanking my front DS for a month to see what, if any, mpg change there is. I know that when my front bearings go, the EMS kit is going in and it would be a great selling point to the little woman (I dont think she really cares) when the time comes.

I had my shaft off for about 3 tanks. only went up 1mpg. Thats not much, but when your as low as 14-15 and get 16, its a little more significant than 30 and 31. It was definitely not worth being without the ability to throw it in 4wheel. The day after I put it back on, I ended up having to use 4x4 for the better part of the day. Boy was I glad to have it. I try to keep mine on at all times, after all, thats why i got it. just my .02
with 37's on there I dont doubt the low gain, some have reported up to 4 mpg difference, however IIRC they are running stock tires. I use my 4x4 enough to leave it on all the time as well, I'd just like to see what if any difference there was.
Then by all means, take it off bro. I think mine is a 15 or 16 at the T-case, and I dont remember what size at the axle, but its the only star socket I have, I can look tonight if you dont have a set and would like to know which one to buy(doubt you dont have a set). Just so you know, I will be jealous if your gain is better than mine was[:@].Just kidding. However, I'm more interested in lowering my egts, since drew has got me worried about melting valves with one of his replies to another post. Good luck.
