Default What would you say to a 24valve with 173K?

Well, I'm back again.

Still truck shopping and not having much luck. Seems like the stuff I find is either junk, not what I really want, or gets sold out from under me.

I came across a truck on Autotrader today at a place about 2 hours from here (as they all seem to be).

It's a '99 Ram 2500 quad cab longbed. 4WD, 5 speed, all the bells & whistles from the looks of it except for leather. 173K on the ticker. They're asking $14,590 for it.

Overall, it looks like a really nice truck, but that high of mileage on a truck always makes me leery. Not so concerned about the drivetrain, but mostly that that's about the point that little stuff starts to go bad (power functions in the interior like windows, locks, etc...CV joints, U-joints, etc). I'm also still a bit leery of Dodges since that one I looked at needed a new track bar, new tie rod ends, and possibly ball joints, and getting all that done wouldn't be cheap.

Ran a carfax on the truck and it said it was in an accident when it was a year old, but it's not an R title, report doesn't say much else about it. It is a 1 owner vehicle though.

Whatcha guys think.

Definitely sounds a bit high to me. My '98.5 was $12,500 with 159k on the clock. Other than the price I wouldn't sweat the mileage a bit, mine has 191k on it, now and runs as strong as ever. I have had to do a few "old truck" repairs in the last year, Starter, Alternator, Ball joints and such.

Christ, where do you guys find these cheap trucks?

I cant find very many diesels for $12K or less unless they're old or have tons of miles, or they're no-option work trucks. If they are that cheap with good miles, they're gone fast.

NADA value on the truck is about $13,500.....KBB retail value is $14,500.

the begining of this year I bought a 99ctd auto 4x4 short bed w/power leather seats,abs,pw/pdl/phmirrors with 185,000 on it and it runs great...paid 10,700 for it in Sarasota Fla I think that price of over 14,000 is high, I wouldn't pay more that 10-11500 for it...IMHO........Dallas
