Jr joined...
Hey guys, after a couple of years of hearing some of the discussions here, my son decided to join. Bud91gmc350is his login...
Yesterday he was pulling the front diff cover off the project Dak and began venting some frustrations... limited access to bolts, busted knuckles, smelling likecrap..."welcome to the world of wrenching" was about all I could say lol.
anyways Steven Jr is his name AKA "Bud"...

You sound like a real proud Dad!
Lots of good info around here, he should learn alot.
One piece of advice given to me as a young "wrencher"...ALWAYS look where your hand is going to go before you start putting any force on a wrench, IOW If your hand slips off the wrench or the wrench slips off the nut, where is your hand going to end up? Can't avoid the knuckle buster spot? throw a shop rag over it, so when you do slip off...and you will...the damage is not quite so bad.
Of course, over the years, I have had my share of injuries. Mainly because I forgot this one piece of advice my Papa gave me, and only AFTER injury did I pay more attention. If you can remember it EVERYTIME, it should keep a few scars away and let you keep all the blood INSIDE your body.

yuck, I have experience with that. It does not smell good at all. I had a '79 F100 as a kid, 2WD on a C4 with a 302. I destroyed that tranny three times that summer, rebuilt it myself everytime and then went out drag racing and mudding with it again. Learned my lesson after I was finally able to do a complete rebuild in and out in about 5 hours by myself in the garage with some bottle jacks. I guess you could say I got good at it, but I was also good at blowing m'fer up too.

Burnt tranny fluid also sucks, I dont think it's as bad as this diff fluid. this stuff is migrating thru the house lol. Today I'm going to pick up a transfer case and this afternoon when he gets home we're going to slap it in. He of course will do most of the bolt removals...
A few projects we have lined up after this Dak are to flush the brake lines on all 3 family cars/trucks and swap out a rear wheel cylinder on Jr's truck. we also have a very small coolant leak on my wifes corolla that we need to track down, have the coolant dye & light already so it'll help us find it easier.
