Default 19.5 Tires Anyone?

Say.........anyone here have any experience with 19.5 medium truck tires?

I want to make that the next upgrade, but wanted to bounce that off ya'll first. I know it's a bit pricey but the safety margin and high milage is appealling to me.

I'm sort of leaning towards Toyo's 265/70R19.5's

As much as I LOOOOOOOOVE those huge Alcoa wheels and tire combo, I remember someone here saying that even though they DO get good mileage, they ride like CRAP. The ride if I remember was extremely bumpy. Hopefully whoever it was that mentioned it ( could have been cowboy ) will chime in again.

Ya know, I suspected that they'd ride rough, though the 3500 isn't exactly smooth to begin with. Yup, I like the looks, and those cavernous wheel wells of mine are screamin for more rubber. I've got 41,000 miles on the stock tires, and in the next few months or so, I'll have to decide what to do............replace with stock, or upgrade.

So Mayfair, you seem to have a vested interest in this decision.......Whadda ya think now ?

I don't care if you painit pink ... I'm stealin it !!

Seriously though, I'd get some more opinions on it before getting them. I'd also try like hell to find someone who has them already and try and get a ride in their rig before making up my mind.

Hey ... on second thought ...

BUY EM !!

Then if you don't like em, you can always sell them to me at a SERIOUSLY discounted rate.

With the 2007 Cummins 6.7 Ram Cab-Chassis pickups
coming from the factory with 19.5 wheels and tires
it would be valuable information to all Ram owners
if owners would pair up
and do before-after tests
of stopping distance and MPG
comparing the 19.5 tires to 16/17 inch tires.

Maybe spot a Cab-Chassis owner and try to talk him into a test where you run through a loop of highway with both trucks in convoy, then swap tires and redo the same loop of highway?

Some of the newest 19.5 commercial service tires
with 'silica and silane' replacing carbon black
might give surprising increases in MPG
because the new tire rolls so much easier.

I am worried about emergency stopping distances getting longer.

I live about 40 miles from Rickson in Baltimore. I would love to get a set of Rickson 19.5" wheels with Michelin XDE2+ tires, but including labor it would cost about $4,000. With that big of a price tag, I won't be doing it anytime soon.

It may be more trouble than it's worth going this direction.

The pro's: Great looks, greater milage on tires, greater load range

The con's : More Expense, possible rougher ride, speedometer re-calibration
more reason for someone to steal my ride.... ( Mayfair )

my 2 cents......my friend had them on a 2004 dually 3500. he loved the millage, he owns a tire shop and bragged about them all the time, how nice they ride, and how high the millage is. But when i rode in the truck, they felt rough to me but i ride on Cooper STTs all the time, and they are a soft tread. If you haul alot, and like to get the millage, GET THEM! they are a great tire! But again, the ride is not as good as the stocker BFG or a Goodyear....just what i think!
