Default Stacking Question

Could someone please explain the concept of "stacking" programmers? I got the Smarty on order for xmas and noticed that they offer each level without timing for stacking. What is the advantage of not going with their timing enhancements? Thanks in advance.

the concept of stacking is useing two or more chips or a programmer and a chip to turn even more power from the engine.
some chips use all pressure to increase power. this is good for low end responce that timeing duration boxes tend to lack. but you have to be carefull and choose the stack carefull. you dont want to add a timeing box onto a box that already increases timeing, or a pressure box onto a box that increases pressure as well.

Most people that stack will take a programmer (smarty, bully dog, PPE, what have you) and stack it with a chip that is adjustable on the fly(TST, Edge, MP8, quadzilla). you would use the programmer to make most of the power gains, then use the box to tweak things to get even more out of the engine.

when you are doing this you have to be carefull to keep an eye on EGT and boost. either one gets to high you'll blow something.

Yes, I have stacked my truck in the past, TST and smarty. all I can say is WOW. I was able to do 3rd gear brake stands with ease. throttle responce was on par with a gasser and turbo lag was virtualy non existant. however things were getting quite warm EGT wise however my boost numbers were in check since my TST has a boost limit function.

hope that helps a bit.

Thanks. It's nice to know that I'll have options if I upgrade everything. After testing the smarty, though, I can't imagine what "more" would be like.

uummm. . .your 98.5 runs MUCH differently than the 03+ HPCR's. yes you can stack on a VP44 driven 24 valve, however you have to make sure your fuel supply is up to snuff beofre you do.

your best bet is going to be to do something similar to what the HPCR's do and that is a programmer to get you the most HP, then a box to tune more power. downside is your stock VP44is limited to how much fuel it can flow. an edge box with some 50hp injectors will go a long way. or even 50hp injectors with a stage II VP44 with give you even more.

just remember that your engine is still rather mechanical when compared to the HPCR's. you still use jerk style injectors and the injector pump controls each injector independently as opposed to the pump flowing to all injectors at once.

Wow Drew,

You need to do a little write up on this , just as a general knowledge thread.
That's if you could find the time.

I can only imagine the price of them injector lines. That is if he kept the 24v head.
