Default Look what was in my cat converter!

This is my first attempt at posting pictures, so I'm not sure if it will show up.

This was in my catalytic converter. The inside of it was shredded and when I cut it off and dumped all the guts out it looked like someone had a campfire inside it. This was the wierdest thing of all, a piece of an old turbo.

Yea, it had 72k miles when I got it and I bought it sight unseen. It's ran like crap ever since I got it. I thought I had a bad turbo so I took it in and dodge agreed with me, but said that the turbo had already been replaced at 53k miles. I guess this part was from the first turbo. They went ahead and put on another turbo and it still ran like crap and I kept getting a turbo underboost code. Finally they said that the cat was clogged and that my best bet was to get rid of it so I did. It runs awesome now. Too bad it took me 4 months to figure it out. My fuel mileage has also jumped from 14 mpg to about 18 mpg.

Says alot about who replaced the first turbo, where is the rest of this turbo? oh well it must have vaporized when it broke off, new turbo, man why does this thing run like crap? oh well bill it out and send it down the road. The world is full of parts changers, no one knows how to diagnose anything anymore. just my 2 cents

I agree. If someone would have just asked the question: Where is the rest of the turbo? They could have saved me and probably the guy who had the truck before me a lot of headaches.

now this begs a few more questions. . .1. did you ask the guy if he ran a programmer or box on the truck. . if he ran enough boost to snap the turbo shaft he was pushing the head gasket pretty good. 2. did you look up into the down tube and see if the turbine had done any damage to it???

Senerio that caused this. . .he was probably pushing around 40PSI and let out of the throttle quick, which caused the turbo to bark, then when the exhaust pressure cought back up it snapped the turbo shaft.
