Default Block heater

On a 6.7l 2008 Just found out the truck i am in contract for doesn't have the block heater. Can I add that on later? or do I really need it here in NY? I know it is a 10 option and why they would not order a fully loaded laramie without it is beyond me.

But i assume will be more to add on in teh future. Does anyone here use the block heater? and can I add on in teh future if I need it?

I'm in Philly and I use mine. Can you live without it - yes, however your Ram would be happier plugged in.

Can it be added later - Yes. The heater element should be there, you'll just need to get the cord.

I can't believe the dealer is going to sell you a cord for 10 bucks. I though they were getting like 30 for that stupid thing. [:@]

Anyway .... Yeah - the element should be there right next to your oil filter. It probably has a rubber boot over it right now.

did not give me a price yet but when you order the block heater from the factory only 10 option, but no an option ordered on this truck. Don't care about the extension cord just want to make sure that the heater can be added or it seems from what people are saying it is there already but the cord hanging from the motor is not. Trying to double check this and that the $10 fee that is on the build sheet for dodge is only for the cord not the actual heating element in the motor?

That you'll hafta talk to the dealer to confirm. Sure, you can put it in later, but it's a little bit of a PITA since it sits in the water jacket. You'll hafta drain the antifreeze. If I were you, I'f have them install it before you pick it up.

I am pretty sure your truck will have the element already installed. The cord is a $10 option when ordered from the factory, but the dealership will sell it to you for $30-40. It sucks, someone (the dealer) is making a ton of money on these cords. To install the cord you first unscrew the plastic cap they have on it. Then, the cord will slide in to a 2 prong socket and a nut holds the connection tight. If you but the factory cord there will be some plastic plugs attached to the cord that you can push into holes that are in the frame. This keeps the wire from moving around.

Ok thank you everyone. This seems to be the case reading on a few websites as well. Shocking that they don't just include it when it is a 10 option to begin with for a lozy cord!!
