Default wierd knocking

So I'm driving my truck this morning and when I get to a stop light I hear what seems to be some vibrating in the dash. As soon as I hit the gas, its gone. Next stop, same thing take off its gone. So you understand whats happening. Get home and pinpoint where its coming from. Pop the hood and it seems its not the dash but a knocking from the motor. I know diesels are loud and always sound like there clunking but this is a different sound. Seems to be coming from the turbo side of the motor. Maybe its normal but I hear it when its idling but as soon as I give it gas, its gone. Any ideas? Its 06 2500 CTD. I installed gauges recently but don't know why that would do anything. Thanks for the help..

the only way to tell if it is a valve is to pull off the valve cover and lash the valves.

Mine has been making some wierd noises in the colder weather. Sometimes when coming home from work, basically idleing down my street (engine up to full temps) it will sound like it's knocking. Not there any other time. My new motto is if it gets good mileage and pulls good, don't worry about wierd sounds.

I may be overeacting but little noises bug the hell out of me. Everytime I take it in they never fix the problem anyways, they just say its normal. Then I ask all the diesel heads on here and usually get an answer and tell the dealer how to fix it. Happened with the injector pump and a couple flashes. Thanks to all the guys and gals on this site. We'll see what happens with it this time.

Is it auto or manual? I had one in here the other day and the dipstick tube for the auto tranny was hitting the aluminum heater core line on the pass side just behind the turbo, made the same noise poor guy thought it was fixing to blow, but that was all it was. Just a thought.

I have a similar noise in the past week. I've only heard it when its a cold day and I'm coasting to a stop light. Its kinda random and its possible I just never heard it because the radio is usually playing.
