Default Tailgate Airbrushing

Ok after AKA_Chewy posted this Photo shopped picture of my tailgate last night, I have been looking into haveing it become a reality.
I get to work today and showed a co-worker the picture and he just so happenes to have a Brother-in-law who does this stuff. http://www.bigredcustoms.com/

So I sent the guy some pictures and he sent me some back. He will do it for $500 as a favor, regular price is $750.
But I'm not so sure I like his work. His work looks a little Cartoony to me, not very realistic looking. What do you guys think? Here is a link to his website where you can see pictures of his work.

Have the guy do just the head or some small portion on a piece of cardboard or some other scrap as a test. Offer him $50-100 for his trouble in the event you don't like it. If you like it, roll with the full package.

And remember that you're asking one artist to emulate another artist. Some guys get offended at that and/or can't quite pull it off, while others can and will do it with no problem.

The guy looks like he does real nice work on his web site. I think the price is a little high, butI guess it depends on the area your in. The work he did on those helmets was real nice.

not to be a wet blanket, but you might want to have the artwork changed just a little bit or at least try to find out if the work is copy writed... hate to come down the line and get sued for infringement...

He halready has a picture of a reaper in his gallery. Check it out. It looks very similar to yours. I'm sure he could pull it off, they look VERY much the same ( face, cycle, ect ). The pic of his is like 10 or so deep in his gallery

Yeah I saw that and thats one of the pic's he sent me. He told me it was from the same picture used on my truck. So much for the copyright infringment eh...lol.
But did you notice how he changed the skull and made it look cartoonish? He also mentioned wanting to put a dark blue aura around it to give it depth? I think it needs to just ghost into the tailgate and disapear.

the more I think about it though, $500 smackers is around 1/3 of an Suncoast T/C

I didn't know it was the same exact reaper. I thought it looked the same.

I agree, I don't like the blue he used behind it. Not for your setup anyway. I think it looks pretty good though. It may look cartoony to you because of the blue, and also because it's bright. If he shaded it a bit more to make it look darker and more ghostlier ( sp ) I think it would look pretty good.
