on my o7 i dont know about 34 gal tank as when the fuel light came on and you got fuel you could pump it in till it ran on the ground and were lucky to get 25 gal in it, but every time the fuel light came on amd the gauge on dead empty i only showed 230-260 miles ran?? ant the trip milage would shor about 11.9, i dont know any one that has ran one low enough to put 34 gal in, must have drove way past empty to do that, i ran mine one time to 300 miles with the fuel light on since 260 and sweated it all the way to the fuel pump and only held 29 gal,

I'm just asking because gas is going up so I wanted to figure out if I should purchase a 5.9 because it gets better fule mileage or a 6.7. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

i like this guy, he sounds like he knows how to check his milage,i have been saying the same thing about my 08 dodge, it does exactly what yours does, but there are some people out there with evedently rare 1 of a kind 08,s that claim they get 17-21??? i believe they got the rare 08 that left the assembly line, the rest of us got shafted..

On the highway at 60 Mph I get 18mpg, at 70MPH i only get 13mpg. With my 33' toy hauler, I only get a pathetic 7-8 MPG. Very dissapointed. I would do a chip if it would help with mileage enough to justify it.

Let me take a stab at this.

I have 30,000 miles on my 07 (6.7L). The truck is stock, with the exception of a set of BF Goodrich T/A KO's. For the last two Christmas holiday's, I've driven basically non-stop from Syracuse NY to Daytona Florida.

I fuel the truck the same way - I let the pump run until it stops, wait a couple minutes, then slowly top it off until the fuel sits in the neck. Though I didn't write it down, I believe I was able to comfortably run about 575 miles on a tank before I refueled. I probably had a couple gallons left in the tank.

That works out to about 17 miles per gallon assuming I used the entire 34 gallon tank. With the assumption that I had a couple gallons left, I probably could have pushed it to 600 miles on the tank. According to my GPS, my average speed was around 76 miles per hour.

I believe the 6.7 has 34 gallon for MC and 35 gallon for other trims. I put 30-31 gallons in mine every 430-470 miles or 10-11 hours run time; around 15mpg. Currently only have 3600 miles on my 08 MC.

New to this forum but not forums. I just turned in my 08 Ram 2500 Quad Cab 6.7l Cummins all stock with about 19,200 miles on it under the lemon law. The best mileage I got was in the summer, on a trip from northern Ohio to Hilton Head SC. I averaged 20-21mpg. Normal city driving I averaged 10-11mpg, with combined city and highway mileage between 14-15mpg. The 6.7l Cummins is an awesome engine, tons of power and torque. The only down fall of this enigine is all the emmisions junk and the 6 speed auto tranny beat the Allison tranny I had on my 04 Chevy Duramax hands down.

I also had a 06 Quad Cab-5.9l Cummins 4x4 all stock that averaged 14-15mpg city driving and 21-22mpg highway driving. Combined city/highway averaged 16-17mpg, and that truck had about 31,000 miles on it when I traded it in.

The 08 Ram has a 34 gallon fuel tank.

joeylift: The truck was turned in under the lemon law due to 8 check engine lights for different emission codes and and a diesel exhaust odor that came through the hvac vents with the heater, A/C, or defroster on when truck came to a stop for a total of 10-11 repair invoices in 9 months. Dealer was never able to find a reason the fumes. The final straw with the 08 was when the dealer had to replace the turbo at 12000 miles. After that I lost total confidence in the truck, never knowing when the check engine light was going to come on and having to breathe diesel fumes every time I came to a stop. The funny thing was, all my trouble was happening when 90% of my driving was highway, and Dodge and Cummins was saying these trucks were not meant to be drove around the city. There is no question that these trucks will be great again when they get all the bugs worked out. With changes in my housing situation in the middle of 2008 there was no longer a need for a diesel so when the lawyer called with the offer, I opted for the 09 gasser.
