Default stop and go or freeway...

driving ...

which is "best" for diesel engine warm up??

now we have discussed a 2 minute or so driveway warmup, then drive mellow for a bit.

how about stop and go city street vs freeway warm up in the cold mornings, nights, or any time....

for instance, the majority of you have an electrically controled clutched engine fan, where as I have a 100% "on all the time" mechanical fan.

the more times I spool the turbo, the faster it warms.

on the freeway, it wil take 10 miles or so to actually hit the temp for the t stat to open, then the guage drops and holds at norm temp.

surface roads, it varies depending on traffic pace.

so, which do you feel is better to "warm up to" for any of the ctds????

I live on a county highway so I have to crank it up to 55 right off the bat. Some times it takes aawhile to finally shift into overdrive.

Keeping it under 2k until it's at least to 140* would be ideal. As far as stop and go or steady- I would opt for steady speed. The rpm's from starting off are going to be the toughest on a cold engine.

When I fire my Ram up, I usually wait a couple of seconds and roll on out. I'd like to wait the full 2 minutes, however because of the hill that I park on, I'm worried that the oil isn't getting evenly distributed so I pull away and just keep it below 2K until the temps move on up. It's really not that hard for me though since I'm light to light on my way to work.

Here's the pitch I park on...

stop and go is hard on any engine. the constant speeds of the highway is actualy better since there is less wear on the engine.

The way you see it is the way it gets parked every night. There is no way in hell that thing would fit in the garage.

My garage is pretty full anyway ...

Sure it will fit. You just have to back it in faster.
