2007 CTD How much oil ?
I just changed the oil in my 07 CTD 2500HD and added 12Qts of Amsoil. After running the engine for a cpl minutes and letting the engine sit for a cpl minutes the dip stick reads half way up the safe zone. Should I run it all the way up the safe zone or run the 12Qts and call it a day.
new or old, every diesel will run the oil level where it is most comfortable
(it will burn or other wise get rid of excess that is doesnt want)
if you are already in the "safe zone", add a tad bit. keep track of the level at every fill up to see if it changes.
then you should have an idea of what the engine likes.

note:
large oil capacity requires more drain time to the bottom of the pan after shut down. I would wait 5 minutes, or the length of time it takes to fill your fuel tank at the pump ..
when I fill up, and after an oil change, I wait till the tank is full (at the pump)or its been long enough to go in the house and clean up from changing the oil..along with pickin up the drain pan, etc...
enjoy your CTD!!!

we always pre fill the filter where i work on every diesel . that filter takes a lot of oil if you dont prefill it when you start it up the pump has to first fill the filter before oil gets to flow through the motor . metal on metal ouch as well on your truck i believe the turbo has oil in it as well dont want to burn that puppy out !!
you prefill the filter on any vehicle that has a turbo on it. . . when cold it may not hurt things as much. . .however hot it WILL do some dammage.
the stock filter holds right at a quart of oil.
