How do you not know you are pounding through something other than the filter. I took that off to get the oil cooler pressure tested when I had that slow oil leak into the radiator, it isn't paper thin or anything.
Looking at the first pictures and the latest one posted, you can visibly tell that something went from the OUTSIDE to the inside - not from the INSIDE to the outside. So it was an external force that caused those holes. Here's another Q for your customer - where did the metal pieces go inside the motor now? Who knows at this point. I would tear it down before I would trust it again...not that I have and diesel mechanic experience.
But anyway...Common sense. If you don't have any - don't do your own work.
hate to say it but this is why i get someone else to change my oil in these newer trucks lol. i learned my lesson though for paying to much for it [:@]
I don't think the CTD is the only one with overtightened filters. I know on my Mazda and my friend's (same car and engine), we had to rip the filters off. I used a pipe wrench and he went with the screwdriver theory. Too bad it ended poorly for this guy though.
I agree That should be under waranty !!there is no doubt that the fluks capacitor let go and caused all the damage just look at those pictures darn dealerships anyways
