HELP, about to buy a new truck!!
Hello to everyone,
Well heres my question, I am in the market to buy a new truck in a few weeks and I am going around in circles on what to buy. I have heard good and bad things about all 3 motors/trucks (GM,Ford, & Dodge). I really like the GMC 2500 but have heard bad things about the DPF and also some sort of crankshaft problems. A friend just bought a 6.7L Cummins and he is having nothing but problems with check engine lights and stalling while driving on the highway. I have heard nothing but bad things about the new ford motor/turbos but nothing specific. So I know everyone here might be a little bias but what are the pros and cons of the new cummings? I'd really appreciate any help.
By the way I am not using the truck to pull anything. I just drive ALOT (50K a year) and need a truck that will last 5 to 6 years. Thanks again!!

RE: HELP, about to buy a new truck!!
I was one of the first to get a 6.7 on this forum. It just turned 10,000 miles this week, and I have had no real trouble with it. The 'check engine' light went on a few times last summer, but the problem apparently took care of itself and nothing bad has happened since (knock on wood). This is my first diesel and I really like it. The engine is silky-smooth, quiet, and powerful.
There are some guys who are having trouble with their 6.7 Cummins, but it may be related to their driving habits. I never idle mine for more than a couple minutes, always fill up with ULSD fuel, and most of my trips are 20+ miles in duration. I only get 15-16 MPG, which seems about average for the 6.7 guys. I would definitely not get a Ford with the newest PowerStroke diesel. It has been very troublesome, and there are some cases of flames coming out of the tailpipe during DPF regeneration!
If you need a truck that will last 300K miles the Cummins-powered Ram is a great choice.
