Default Poor Fuel Milage

Hi Guys:
I don't get the time to get on this forum much now, but I have a question. Has anyone's fuel milage gone into the toilet lately? I mostly tow an enclosed 12' "v" nose trailer with one of my "Crosleys" in it ( less than 3K total) and my milage has gone from the high 18's on the lie-o-meter to the very low 15's in the last 6 weeks. I just came back from a run to Pittsburg towing the trailer empty going out, and with a 900 pound Pre-War Crosley Converytible aboard comming back and true calculated was only14.0 for the almost 800 miles. Is it the "winter" fuel, or doI have another problem? The truck has a NAPA 2790 Air Filter about 2000 miles old, and the fuel filter was changed about the same time. The truck runs great, pulls great, and sounds great, but a 20% drop infuel milage sure hurts in the pocketbook !
Thanks !

have you noticed any excessive black smoke comeing from the exhaust???

also, is the 18 unloaded and the 14 loaded??? if that is the case then you are about right on the money.

It is probably the winter fuel causing your dip... are you running LSD or ULSD?

what I dont get however is my numbers have not dropped...

If you look around here at past posts, there are some here with the 2005 that get poor mileage (me included [:@])
18's on your lie-o-meter was probably like 16 from what I've seen on mine. I am lucky to get 14 empty city and 16 empty hwy with summer fuel and I have been hand calc every tank for going on 2 yrs now. The 14's are like Steve said, probably winter fuel but if you haven't been hand calcing your mileage, you probably weren't getting 18's to start with.

I am still trying to figure out what to do about increasing mileage []. I am waiting to hear from QC4X4 on how his Quadzilla Max Mileage is working out.

Those Crosleys are pretty neat looking. I read they can get upwards of 50 mpg. They still get that high mileage?

My 04 is all stock and a 2wd with 119k on the clicker. I just made a trip to Raleigh NC which is 300 miles one way from my house. I had the wifey and 4 curtain snatchers with me. We ran 75 and 80 both ways and burned 30 gallons of fuel. 600/30 = 20mpgs on my paper. Now this kind pf mpgs aint gonna happen until you put some miles on your truck. You can spend as much as you want on mods and their not going to offset their cost enough to pay for themselves. With fuel over 3 bucks a gal. I say keep the $$$ in your pocket. If you want more power mod it up, but dont count on better mpgs, simply because you wont be able to keep your foot out of it

I've ran several tanks of fuel since adding the Max Mileage box and the results aren't good. My mileage is almost the same as before if not a little worse. I like to run the box because the truck runs noticeably smoother, but it hasn't helped my mileage.

here is some info on the TST and it's various settings... take a look at the stock settings indicated by 0/0 in the left column vs the performance settings.

Looks like your data shows stock gives the best MPG with PSD. I didn't think I saw much improvement while I was using the PSD but maybe I will go back to it.

I've got over 78K on the ticker. Are we talkin' mileage over 100K for MPG improvement? Granted, much of my driving is stop & go, but I try to keep the RPM's under 2K as much as possible. Believe me, at $3.40/gal I have been mindful of how I drive it and keep my foot light on the skinny pedal.

Thanks for the input guys, I'm more confused now than before:

Drew: The 18's are with the trailer loaded during the summer and in the Pa mountains, the 14's are the same trailer load this winter here at the Jersey Shore (flatlands)

Steve05ram360: I'm running ulsd, as it's the only thing available around here, plus I use "Drew's Brew" every other tank full.I've tried changing "Brands" but that didn't make much of a change.

Bert0168: Just using the Lie-o-meter, I can tell if there is a major difference, better or worse. When the meter loses more than 4 mpg, it's way to the worse side! My '39 Crosley is an 850 GVW car with a 12 hp, 2 cyl, air cooled, opposed engine, that will pull 60-70MPG at 45MPH. Thanks for the complement on my "baby cars" apperance!

I actually got better mileage with the TST on economy 2/2... got into the 18's 2x. the current run i'm on seems to be out performing all of the other settings so far... 7% better so far with rough calculations based on how far per tick on the gauge.

racerpete, how many miles are on your truck?
