Default Lift Pump Replacement Cost?????

I have a 2002 Dodge 2500 Diesel and have had power loss issues. As this forum seemed to suggest the dealership has identified the fuel supply pressure is low and has quoted me $1700 to replace my lift pump. Is this a reasonable price? (assuming the diagnostic included)

Let's hope for their personal saftey, the where talking about my injector pump, why tell me its a lift pump? As far as I've been able to tell I only have 2 pumps. The injector or the transfer/intank pump. Am I correct or do I have three pumps?

Dodge no longer sells the lift pump that mounts on the side of the engine. It is said that the heat and vibration causes failure. Now they want you to buy a retro-fit kit that moves the pump into the fuel tank. This reduces heat and vibration. There are different kits, depending on fuel tank size and year..$1,700.00 is way too much. It should be no more than $1,000.00 and that may still be high depending on which kit you need....

If you already have the transfer pump mounted in the tank, you need part # 5179873AA. This part retails for $320.00 and the labor should be $240.00 to $270.00....

So my dealer also said something about the 1700 beiing the cheap option and said if they had to replace the pump in my tank it would cost an addnl. 3600.- Is there any possible logical explanation for this or am I getting phukked?

I would say to get a 2nd opinion. The 3,600.00 must be for a injector pump and that is way out of line for the injector pump. Ask them if it is for a new or reman pump. Call me and I will give you retail prices and labor times to replace both.... DAVID
