Sad... poor ram gets to sit home...
As some of you may remember, I picked up a '01 jetta for commuting (1.8 turbo) and it is turning out to be a good move... (traded in the Dak for it). Having kept track of expenses in fuel and comparing it to the Dak & Ram for commuting costs, its already saved me $350 bux in fuel in the 3 weeks that I've had it. sad part is it is parked all week. I did take it down to the car show last weekend and will be using it for wheeling/camping & hiking in the upcoming months. Just makes me sad to see it parked. [sm=boohoo.gif]

those volks i hear are great on fuel, i've been looking for a used tdi jetta. Folks claim to get like 50 mpg, unfortunately people want two arms and a leg around here for a 5 year old jetta with 130,000 miles. I don't blame you at all for getting one.

Hey Firemedic... welcome to DF... unfortunately the jetta is a gasser... like you mentioned they are hard to find at a reasonable price. the unfortunate thing for me is that it is a turbo and there are alot of upgrade parts available for it [&:] (stock sucks)

i had a, now don't laugh, 01 new beetle glx with a 5 speed 1.8t and that thing was quick and great on fuel.I bought it in 03, had a hemi that was bad on mpg, and just drove it to work and back. It saved me so much money from the truck. Had to get rid of it, everybody said i looked gay driving it.

yup... after analyzing & over analyzing the data (remember... test engineer here) it made more sense to trade than to try to get the extra bux out of it by selling (which it was up for sale for a few months now). I miss it, the 4.7v8 with the flowmaster & K&N intake kit was nasty sounding!

Steve. . .I'm the same way right now. . .last time I filled beasty up I was sitting on 1/8th tank. $105 later she had a full belly. Yoda, filled up today with 1/4 tank. a bit over $30 later she was fat and happy. I can go two weeks on a tank with beast for around $80-100, or fill up once a week and save $20-40 every two weeks.
granted Ive only got a 60 mile around trip, it still adds up.
The other diesel head where I work is currently looking for a cheapo beater. his fuel bill last month was over $500.
