if you decide to drain the torque converter you'll obviously need a bit more ATF.

While all ATF 4 meet the req some are still gonna be a better pick.
I'm just an amsoil fan so I gotta say that.

Mopar ATF+4 is not a synthetic trans fluid, its made from group III base stock fluids. "the ATF+4 solution, which provided Group IV style performance from Group III stock." You can read the whole Mopar ATF+3 & 4 story at this AllPar URL: http://www.allpar.com/mopar/transmissions/fluids.html

If I drop the pan and change the filter is it okay to refill with synthetic, or do I have to pump outall of the fluidand then refill with synthetic? Just curious.

The guy at dodge told me the mopar stuff is semi-synthetic, then again this is the same guy who sold me 5 quarts for a 7 quart job.

When I had my trans service I had them install Amsoil ATF. So far with the mix of 6.5 qt's of Amsoil ATF and Mopar ATF I've not had any problems in the last 14K.

JMHO... deep dish pans are for pizzas, as for trannys if one keeps regular maintenance up it'll serve you well. (as long as you don't go adding a ton of hp!)
The deep pan is like the CAI, the OEM intake works as well or better then some aftermarket crap (one of the few things DC got right!). The reason I went with aftermarket intake was the intake tube to filter box is like a "ram tunnle" with the road coditions I drive daily, I was seeing way too much mud/snow and dedries building up in the box. The $200 to $500 for a aftermarket tranny pan would be better spent on fuel. I've only seen once where the temp on my tranny fluid hit 200* and that was pullin 10k# up a long steep climb, and that was being stupid.. trying to race a car!! The temp sensor is inline going to cooler!

If your building a full out race truck, then ya go for a big piece of deep dish, it will just delay the outcome. This winter I pulled a tandum axel flatbed trailer with about 5k# of equipment to a remote gas well, the trail was just shy of 15 miles and had 3' snow on it, plowed snow for an hour (real rough road) did my work and returned. I got my truck home and parked in the shop it took 3 days for the snow and ice to melt. There so much ice built up I couldn't even seen the fuel filter housing!! I was worried about the tranny over heating so I picked up a filter and fluid did a change and found the that the fluid was the same as the new stuff, no colour change or burnt smell.

There is just too much hype on aftermarket junk, and I myself have beenbitten by that "bug", its a problem ofhavingmore money then brains!!Most of my mods have been done to work in the coditions I drive, if my truck saw only pavement it would be 2wd and bone stock! My brother has a 05 QC DRW 2WD long box with 215k miles no issues and gets 25mpg bone stock! (he uses it for OTR hauls RVs cross country)
