Default 2002 powerstroke...minus the power?

So, one of the trucks that I use for work is a 2002 f350 powerstroke, dually...

before driving it, i was sure that it would pull pretty well, as ive driven some cummins and i figured that the almighty powerstroke would be comparable, stock for stock...but im extremely disappointed.

the truck is a pig. i was pulling a 15 foot enclosed livestock trailer with no more than 1500lbs in the trailer, and the truck could barely get out of its own way...with less than 100,000 on it.

so, what im wondering, is there something wrong with this truck, or was i expecting too much from a ford? i know that the cummins is superior, but i dont think that the powerstroke pulls as well as the other work truck (excursion with a 5.4). i would figure that without a load, the powerstroke would at least pull as hard in the mid range as amandas 360 ram, but for me to keep up with her truck i would need about a week's head start.

A 2002.......that means a 7.3.

While they are a good motor, they are not particularly snappy.

In stock form, they are what they are. They tow okay, but don't expect to win races with them.

At least they stay together, unlike the 6.0.

And with that light of a load, I bet that 5.4 gasser does almost as well from a stop.

I was JUST NOW with a buddy of mine in his V10 Super Duty, almost identical to my old one, except he has 4.10's and I had 3.73's. His truck always felt peppier than my old one, but it felt ABSOLUTELY ANEMIC compared to my CTD.

It makes you realize how much power the CTD can actually put down.

The other day, he was riding with me and he said, "I thought you were gonna push me through the seat when you passed that guy..."

That was with 6 people, including me, in the truck.

Muwahahahahahaha!!!!

For a real comparison, you need to take into account rear axel gearing, age, milage and abuse a truck is gone threw. a 7.3 with a 3.73 rear axle raitio will not tow any where close to the same truck with a 410, but a 7.3 with a 3.73 will cruse pretty quick at high way speed. same could be said with a CTD.

I'm a ex ford die hard, the 7.3 was Fords better diesel engine in terms of longivity, but h/p and torque numbers for a CTD, Power stroke and the duramax in the year 2002 are no where close to 2008 numbers.

I would bet the ford only has a 3.73..

This is not about the Cummins or any ram for that matter. Therefore it is off topic. I think it has to be moved. Sorry guys, not my rules. Good luck with it in the off topic section, where nobody ever goes anyways.

The old foreman who ran the jobs before me drives a power stroke f350. I have driven it many times, and it is seriously under powered slow pile of crap. My truck can run circles around it.

7.3 is a good motor. Only real problem is the cam sensor, which they supposedly fixed with all those recalls. If taken care of, they will last as long as any 5.9 and with very few problems. They dont seem to pull as well as the 5.9 and they definately arent fast off the line. The 6.0 when running right is a quick motor (sacrifice the reliability). My boss' 04 crew cab short box psd will out run my dodge and he's sitting on 35's. Yeah I know its blasphamy but I've driven his truck and as soon as the turbo spools up it'll blow the doors off mine. Thats fine with me though, hook 10k behind both trucks and see who comes out ahead

im going to speak with the owner of the company...i dont believe that the truck has been serviced in any way, in at least a year if not longer. the brakes are also brutal, but they get the truck stopped.

if nothing else, id like to find out if any work has been done to it, ever...since im going to have to be using it. i used to excursion today, and pulling the same trailer and same horse, it definately pulls better.

Apparently I hit a soft spot with this comment. I was told to stop being a smart*ss or I will get banned. So I am gonna leave it at that. I have a political statement for the email I recieved, but I really like it here. So I am just gonna take it in the *ss on this one and leave it alone.

As for the powerjoke, My best friend back home in Tonopah has a 97 7.3 Dually 2wd. He thinks his truck is the shizzle, so I challenged him to a pulling match when I go home next month. I will try and get the event of video. When I win, I am sure there will be alot of crying becuase either he is gonna say mine is newer, or his automatic is slipping, or whatever. It should be fun. I will even do it in 2wd to match his handicap, even though he has the dually=more traction.
