Default Value Of Our Trucks Going Down!

I was looking into possibly trading on a new dodge ram (with a cummins obviously), but I was in shock
when they told me what they would give me for my truck as a trade-in. They will only give me $14,000 for my
truck. When did the value of these trucks take a ****? I only have 77,000 miles on my truck now.
I must have been sleeping when this happened. What do youguys think?
Does this sound unreasonable to you? Thanks for your help.

I bought my 03 Ram 2500CTDQuad Cab in March paid $18k with 100k miles on it. At the time I couldn't find anything under 23k. I looked on auto trader and have found 04's and 05's with the 5.9 liter for $18 with 30k-40k miles on it. yes they ahve taken a crap in the past 5 months or so. Dodge is selling 1/2 ton hemi's for 50% off. The truck and suv market is diving fast. Chrysler is not even letteing people lease now because the residual value's can't be predicted and is dropping off at an alarming rate.

The upside is that the new truck your looking at has dropped in value too. Now out of the gate they'll try to make you think it hasn't but if you are a good negotiator you will get a damn good price on a new one. Thus if your truck is paid for, you sill come out OK.Now if you still owe a bunch on yours then you should probably sit tight.

How much off the sticker were they giving you on the new truck? Check your newspaper ads out, you need to get the very best price on the new truck so that you will truly see how much they are really giving you on trade. If you do that, I'll bet you won't even really get $14,000 in trade.

Yep. I wish more people understood that. The increasing "cost" of fuel, food and other tangibles, and conversely the declining "value" of real estate and other traditional assets, is all actually due to the quickly vanishing worth of the dollar. More specifically, Federal Reserve notes. They are fiat currency, which means a dollar note is worth one dollar simply because the government and the Federal Reserve says so. Federal Reserve notes are backed by absolutely nothing other than the mutual confidence people place in them, and that confidence is fading quickly... especially in other parts of the world.

If they offered you 14k trade in for your truck you can bet they will only have about 10k or a little less in it. I have an 03 1500 4x4 long bed on my lot with 85k on the clock that I can't even get rid of for 8500. And it's a dang nice truck that has been well taken care of since it was bought new. Trucks aren't bringing much money right now because the demand is down, but if they don't offer you much for your truck because of this, make sure you aren't paying squat for the one they are selling because it goes both ways. Being a dealer, I know this and don't jack people around feeding them these BS stories because we all know the value has gone down on ALL the trucks, not just tradins.

14,000 on trade-in is not that bad.

They're almost giving (gas-fed) trucks away it seems. You can get a good deal now. They're also cutting production on the larger vehicles to meet today's demand. We all know this.

With less trucks being made, I believe it'll actually help keep the values up (of the CTD) in the long run . It took me almost 4 months to find a local/regional used Dodge cummins with reasonable mileagefor a good price. The only deals I seen were at least 150+miles away in another state.

I must have drove by a couple thousand Ford Super Duty's "FOR SALE" in that same 4 months. They're the ones that everybody wanted and now nobody can sell them. Can somebody say "Oversaturation". Too bad they found out the hard way! And remember, "Think Ford LAST!"
