Hey guys, new here... I tried searching for quite a while, but could not find the answers to my questions.

I am shopping for a 2500 Quad Cab Cummins and thinking about the Manual transmission.

So, are people having problems with the manuals? I have been told that the power of the engine has a tendency to wreak havoc with the manual trannys...

Any truth to this?

I also heard that in 05 or somewhere near there some extra emissions stuff was put on the diesels, truth to this as well?

06 was the year the 6.7L CTD came out with the bluetec emissions tech on it. The 6.7Ls have had a lot of problems, engine and emission controls, if I were you, I'd got for one of the 5.9L CTDs. The 5.9 is an extremely reliable engine and only slightly less powerful. The transmission has always been the achilles heel of the Ram, both manual and automatic. A good friend of mine has several CTD rams (all 5.9s) for his business and all of them have over 200k miles (one over 400k) and have been fine with the stock transmission. If you're planning on doing any serious tuning to the engine, you may want to invest in an Allison tranny, but otherwise I think you'll be fine.

Small correction. 2007 is when the 6.7L CTD came out. You can actually find both the 5.9L and 6.7L for the 2007 year model. 2007.5 refers to the 6.7L.

I have the 2007 5.9L CTD with a manual transmission. No problems yet, but I only have 17000 miles on the odometer.

You are better off going new if CTD is what you want. Diesel fuel has been destroyed with the removal of sulfur and older diesels will NOT perform to any power or milage ratings. I would wait maybe 1 year or so until they get this emissions garbage straight. My semi: cummins N14, has lost 2 mpg due to the reduced sulfer. Simply my .02

 

wow, thank you for the replies... I was looking at somewhere in the 02 to 05 range for right now... don't like the idea of the new diesel formulation though...

 

For three years now I have been making my own biodiesel. You would not believe how much quieter the motor is running some fuel with some nice lubircation. Regained my lost fuel mileage as well.

 

Well , I 'm having problems now with my 08 Hemi 6 speed. I am getting some squealing from the clutch. Any TSB's on this?
