Death Wobble
I have an 07 2500, when i bought it 9 months ago it had stock size BFG trail TA's on it with a leveling kit. I hit a bump in the road at 70 and it went into DW. The next day i put some 35 x 12.50 general grabbers on it (not for highway use). I ran those tires for about 16k miles and never experienced the DW. Last week I put on some barely used 35" BFG AT's and I have experienced the DW about 10 to 15 times in the last week. Could it have something to do with the tires? The Generals were very squishy tires and i'm wondering if they were absorbing more of the shock than these stiff BFG's?
so a few questions, positive castor? how do i know the alignment shop did it to positive castor or do i have to tell them to do it? what is positive castor and can i tell if its done by looking at it?
i seen someone on here mention steering box upgrade? i cant find any steering box upgrade on the internet for a 2005 2500 4x4. i would like a heavy duty steering box out of a 5500, is that a direct bolt on?
this dw is pissin me off and i want it solved im hoping this positive castor thing is the issue, i dont understand how dodge could just let this crap slide with no recall. its dangerous, not only am i scared to drive my truck but im scared whenever i see a dodge coming my way now to, think he might get the death wobble right into me.
look at your alignment spec sheet that they gave you when you got it aligned, your shooting for approx 5.2 or greater on both sides. you have to tell the tech to forget the caster spec and set it where you want it. it will not affect tire wear.
steering box... #46 on the list

ok so now i have installed the following...
-bd diesel hd adjustable tracbar(didnt work)
-bd diesel steering box brace(didnt work)
-rancho rs5000 steering stabalizer(didnt work)
-energy suspension tracbar bushings(didnt work)
-all new steering, tie rods and ends from the wheels to the pitman arm all new(didnt work)
-all new u-joints for driveshaft(didnt work and i dropped the driveshaft on my face and chipped my tooth)
-brand new load range E 10 ply Toyo open country m/ts 35x12.5x17 (possibly helped as i havent had death wobble with them yet)
-new ball joints upper and lower(possibly helped)
-new axle u-joints(posibly helped)
so i havent had the death wobble so far after the millions of dollars ive invested to the front end of this AAM axle, but i can still feel it want to go when i hit a series of bumps on the highway. i cant help but think that were just masking a bigger problem here, like some geometry here is off or something.

ugh... sorry to hear your pains with the DW, best solution is to increase caster to just beyond the upper limit of the spec. 5.25 IIRC... should solve your problem since everything else is new & tight. I've had bad ball joints, worn trac bars, tre's steering box bad and just about everything you can point to under there be worn out & loose and have never had the DW since setting the caster to 5.25 or greater.
tell the tech to put in as much caster as he can w/o causing too much pinon angle and you should be good.

ive had my castors adjusted but they may have been adjusted the wrong way.
just so im clear on the adjustments, should the front axle be more forword or backwords? castor the angle of the axle so the axle sits farther towards the front of the truck, or the back of the truck. right now sportsman 4x4 adjusted the castors so my axle is sitting as far back(closer to the rear axle) as it can possibly go. (i was thinking this was wrong.) thanks for the feed back, every bit helps on this situation
your adjusting them so the yolk is moving up towards the cab... go to far and you'll have pinion bearing noise. when its on the alignment rack go just beyond the upper limit... IIRC its 5.2 or 5.25... go to 5.25~5.3 per side and adjust so it still drives straight.
having the DW 1x, I did a ton of research and concluded it was the caster that would fix it. made the change and never had it again. even had 2 tracbars go bad on 1 truck with loose TRE's and still no DW.
on the '05 it was one of the 1st things I had done... then over 150k miles I have put on it with various parts worn out, never had the DW.

sorry to be a pain, but if you get a chance could you take a picture of the castor adjustment on your control arm so i can adjust mine the same as yours, thanks.
