Question New with fuel leak problem

I have a 95 Ram 2500HD 4x4 club cab Laramie SLT with 5.9L Cumminings. I have a fuel leak coming somewhere around fuel separator or possibly the fuel inlet connection. I assume its a fuel line needing replacement. The engine will start after steady cranking, then fuel immediately starts dripping. From exactly where is the main question. Secondly, how difficult is changing a line? Third, is it safe to drive 5 miles to the nearest mechanic?

are you talking about the spin on fuel filter (up high mounted to the bottom of the head) or the precleaner/heater down low by the lift pump? shouldnt be a problem for the short distance, but never recomended to drive with a fuel leak.

There is kind of a known problem that may be where your leak is coming from.

There is a heater element on top of the filter head...there's 2 wires coming out of it. A lot of times when a leak occurs, it's right at the seal of the heater element.

You used to be able to buy just the heater element, but the part has been discontinued and you have to buy the whole filter head.

Rarely does the leak develop at the fuel line banjo bolt itself.

The best I can tell, it is up high around the spin on filter. From underneath the truck looking up, it drips and runs off to many places to pinpoint the leak

To Coal Train, that makes sense to me, thanks. But for DodgeTrucker75's question, would that be by the spin on filter or low at the precleaner/heater.

Shoot me your VIN and I can pull up the diagram of your filter head and point to a few spots to check.

Probably the filter gasket. There are hard lines to and from the filter, they shouldn't leak unless they're damaged.

on the 95 the filter should screw directly on the head, there is a gasket there and also the water drain on the filter could be leaking too
There is a heater element on top of the filter head
i believe you are thinking about the first gen filters, thats where they were, but in 94 they moved the heater to the side of the block, just forward of the lift pump, and also put a pre screen in there which the bottom spins off to get to it, and is well known for leaks and pluging up
