Here's todays progress.

She's starting to look like a motor again.

I've got about as much done now as I can until the rotating assembly gets back.

Got the oil filter housing, turbo oil supply lines, water pump, ECM, and motor mounts back on.

So, today was nothing sexy.

I just started making the much heavier duty engine dolly that will be able to support the entire engine as it's being assembled.

Instead of it bolting to the back like the engine stand, it'll use the engine mounts and 2 of the holes that the engine stand uses now.

Started with a 20' stick of 2 x 4 x 11 gauge stock and a set of 4 wheels rated at 450 lbs each and got busy.

Just need to make the uprights and we'll be in business.

Got the rotating assembly back today.

Need to finish the engine dolly today and tomorrow the motor starts going back together.

Here's the balance sheets.

Now remember, rotational weight has a MUCH larger impact on performance than static weight. For every lb of rotational weight or imbalance that you remove, it's like losing 10 lbs of static weight.

The crank lost approx 2.3 lbs of rotational imbalance. That's like removing 23 lbs of static weight from the crank.

Okay, here's todays work.

Still some not so sexy stuff.....had to finish the engine dolly.....but it's now a stand fit for a big boy motor.

There's also pics of the crank after the balancing.

And now, what ya actually want to see.....

Crank balanced, edges of the counter weights beveled, oil holes chamfered, journals polished.

Damn it!

Ran into a little snag.

One of the sets of connecting rod bearings is the wrong part.....the tang is on the wrong side.

Soooo......that kinda puts a damper on things.

Okay, other than the set back with getting one set of incorrect rod bearings, things went good today.

If it hadn't been for those incorrect bearings, the short block would have been done.
So, Monday I'll get the correct set overnighted and next weekend we should be stuffing the motor back in.

Here's todays progress.....

WHEW HEW!

Rod bearings came in today and we made some good progress on the motor.

Rotating assembly is done. Just need to put the block stiffener, oil pickup tube and oil pan on the bottom.

The head gasket and rings are on and the head is set in place.

Everything rotates nice and freely.

Gettin' closer.

Dead even at .002" clearance on all the connecting rod bearings.....
