Cummings Diesel vs Competition
It's better.
1. More power.
2. Proven Cummins design with zillions
of miles on it (design).
3. Less parts (I-6 vs V-8)
4. More aftermarket parts, rivaled only by the PS.
5. It's a Dodge
6. Need I keep going...

lets put it this way as well.
back when Cummins first started up, one of the first engines Clessie Cummins (yes thats the guys name that started Cummins up) designed was a 5.9L inline 6 engine, the 6BT. a few years after that and a few changes to the 6BT the Cummins 6ISB was developed. the ISB engine is the EXACT same engine Cummins has been putting out for decades. only a few things have changed over the years like the 24 valve head, mainly developed for the engine that is sold to Dodge and that was the largest change. generaly most of the changes occur with the injectors. anyway, Cummins has been building, testing and improving this engine for as I said before, Decades. how long has the Power Stroke been out, also how long has the Duramax been out, in terms of the running time of the Cummins they are still in their infancy.
one thing the Cummins has over the chevy or ford offering is that max torque is hit at only 1600rpm and maintained throughout the RPM range. the other two run upwards of 2000rpm+ before they hit max torque, then it drops off.
overall mechanical, the guts of the Cummins are massive, I have a pic of the pistons and rods side by side of the Cummins, Ford, and chevy diesels. only the duramax comes close to the size of the cummins since the engine is a 6.6L engine.

no doubt about it. you don't hear many stories about a chevy with 400000 miles on it. there are cummins out there running with 500000+ miles. go to the next local truck pull when there is a diesel class, there will be 15 cummins, maybe 1 or 2 powerstrokes, and an occassional chevy. to me that says a lot.
Cummins is #1....plain an simple....there's no comparison......if you are buying a truck that's Diesel you would literally need to sign the ID10T form......IF you didnt buy the Cummins.....you'd be shredding your money
cummins has the most towing capacity and come on dodges look the best

One of the other arguing points for the Cummins vs the other diesels -
The Cummins is a medium duty engine that the Dodge Ram is built around.
The Powerstroke and Duramax are light duty engines designed for the trucks.
That's the easiest way to explain it.
In my friend's words -
"It wouldn't matter if it had an Isuzu body. I bought the engine. The fact that a Dodge truck houses it just makes it better."
(oh yeah, I'm new here!!

I owned Ford Powerstrokes for years. I was in the market for a 2005 and my brother talked me into at least test driving the Dodge. I bought it on the spot. More towing power, much quieter, smoother ride, etc.
The biggest point that was made to me was the warranty. Check out Ford's Chevy's and Dodge's warranties and you will see who stands behind their products. It's Dodge in case you don't really want to look.
