bump the timing up on that thing...more timing = less heat.

and if you like the power but you're sick of the heat, ditch that POS hybrid turbo and get something like a super B single. should lower your EGTs quite a bit by reducing the drive pressure on the turbine and having a bigger gate that vents all 6 cylinders instead of just 3 like the hybrid, and a turbine housing that can breathe better.

your hybrid is either a 60/60/12 (if using stock housing) or a 60/60/14 (if you have the cheap chinese knockoff hybrid)

a super b single is a 57/65/14 S300G. borg warners fin design is far more efficient than holsets fin design making the turbo work a lot better.

bump the timing up to around 26* and that should help.

like I said, timing reduces EGT's and it also improves fuel economy..

the nuts use a 13mm wrench for pump mounts, but anything over the center of the slot will be advanced from stock, usuall very colse to center of the slot is stock setting, pull it all the way over (top of pump twards the head) if you desire

this thread: http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/89...y-ve-pump.html
specifically post #5 should help you with adjusting your VE pump.

you can turn timing all the way to the head

then adjust the rest according to what seems to run best for you as far as spool up, smoke, and power.

post #25 is also a very good one for learning how to tune the pump

http://www.cumminsforum.com/forum/89...ml#post5282993

has a diagram and he tells you what their terms are for smoke screw and star wheel and what not and how it translates to the diagram.

so timing will help your fuel economy and should help reduce egt's, and raising the star wheel a bit should keep EGT's from jumping too fast as it forces the turbo to build boost before it gives it harder fueling. basically increases spring tension to where it takes more boost to push the fuel pin down to let more fuel through...

so you will still get more power from having the fueling turned up, its just going to delay the fueling till there is boost which should reduce heat and smoke till the turbo catches up enough to be able to clean it up...if after adjustments you still cant clean up the smoke to a light haze and keep EGT's under control, then its time for a bigger turbo...
