gonna put it to the head,,smoke screw up,(denny t stage 1),gonna put the star wheel all the way down,, then whatcha all think about how many turns up on the star wheel ,,,3,,4,,,3 1/2,,,,???? mabe i can get it alot closer the first time,,,so from what i gather the injectors are really not that far off of stock , so i guess ill just leave them,,thought mabe they sent me some bigger ones by mistake,, but it is probally my f@^cked up tuning,, never had a diesel before,, oh well trial and error.
thanks again for the info threads,,and the heilp from both of ya,,.

go up 3 turns to start, and drive it, see how it does, and if its still hot and smokey, take it up another turn and drive it, see how smokey/responsive it is...and just fine tune it from there...

its a balancing act of responsiveness vs smoke/heat. you want a good balance where you are still peppy and responsive but not dumping tons of smoke and building tons of heat before your turbo can spool. you just gotta find that sweet spot, and I can't tell you where that is going to be, because every truck will be different. even identically modified trucks will have slightly different sweet spots. you just gotta play with it till you find the settings that work best for you.

up 3 turns from bottom is a good start though. up too high will never fuel, down too low will never spool and smoke like a burning tire. its almost like doing air/fuel ratio screw on a carb...don't want too rich or too lean, want it just right (with the exception you actually have to drive it to figure out if its right or not lol...its all load/boost dependent)

shouldn't have to. if you do loosen then, you will have to bleed the lines to get it to start again...

advancing the timing all the way to the head,,, will that cause hard starting conditions when the engine is at operating temp,, like it does on a gas engine???

nope, actually quite opposite, more timing = eaiser and cleaner start ups on diesel, withch is also what your "KSB" (cold start advance) does

as far as the lines go, you dont have too and i have done many of them with out breaking the lines loose, untill i had a delivery valve (where the line connects to the pump) loosen up and start leaking on one of my customers trucks, now i break them loose everytime

i read that advanceing the timing (all the way to the head) reduces the egt's but raises the cyl temp,,is this true? and how much does it raise it? do i have to be worried about that after i do the timing?or is it not enough to worry about? or should i just do the starwheel and smoke screw? it is at the 1/8" bumo right now,.sorry for all the ???'s but dont want to hurt her,,
thanks mike
