Siren Sound?
Newbie here,
I recently bought a used 03' Ram CTD 2500, It is an automatic, H.O., quad cab 4X4 with 26,000 laps. Occasionally when accelerating a sound that can only be compared to a cops siren comes from what seems like underneath the cab. It sounds like the begining of the siren (when the volume and pitch increases, then as I let off the sound slowly dissapates. It doesen't seem to do it all the time; on the go pedal hard or not; it seems totally random.
It also happens when the truck drives into a large dip in the road (a fairly good compression of the suspension. This happens without any trailer or weight in the box.
Any info would be appreciated, plan on taking it to the dealer but would like to get input from others to have some idea of whats going on.
Thanks again,
LJ

youve got me on this one.
the first thing I thought of was the turbo and that gets louder as you puch harder on the go pedal. but that cant be it.
I wonder if you have some interferrence going on with your radio and the altenator.

GRAHAM HERE: DON'T GIVE UP, I HAD A HOUL THAT I CHASED FOR 3 OR 4 MONTHS ON AND OFF. I EVENTUALLY FOUND IT AT A CERTEN SPEED AND WITHOUT THE SKIES ON THE SKI RACK, IT SOUNDS SIMPLE, BUT IT DROVE ME NUTS FOR A WHILE.

But I have heard the same "siren" sound. The only time that the 04 makes it is when it's cold outside, and the truck isn't warmed up.
Heard it the first time all winter yesterday. And the radio wasn't on, so I have to believe that it doesn't have anything to do with that.
My .02 cents...

i remember when i first stated driving a diesel powered big rig. We ALL carried a NEW flex hose and clamps that fit from the turbo to the intake manifold. When you have a leak it will cause a whistle like you've never heard. If you were under load i would imagine you also may experience a loss of manifold pressure if you were experiencing this problem. Do you have a manifold pressure gauge installed?..This IS a turbo powered diesel..right?
