Default RE: Fuel Mileage

I've only been back in the Ram saddle for 4 weeks, but WOW! am I impressed. The first tank averaged 18mpg, the second went 19.5mpg, then on the third, I used a power service and Marvels blend.............I'm getting tingly just thinking about the 22mpg!!!!! It's a real shame I had to trade the Ford gas-guzzler on something I truly enjoy filling up.

Forgot to mention that it's stock. The only add-on so far is the Pacbrake exhaust brake.

by hand, average about 14 winter, 18 summer. my overhead average mpg runs almost exactely 2mpg higher than it really is. one of the biggest bummers of this truck is that there is no instant mpg. i know that the 01 and 02's had them. i found the instant quite entertaining...

witg trailer it get 17
powerserviceses white bottle every third tank or so.
going to try the brew as I have used MM for stuff for years. Do you notice the sweet smell in the exhaust with the Brew.

My wifes truck only get's about 13.5MPG city - not yet hand calculated but computer says that. Truck is stock 2005 Ram 2500 4X4 quad long bed with locked rear diff. What can I do inexpensively to improve mileage or do you think the computer is off? And what's all this talk about fuel additives? My first diesel obviously...but love it. We tow a travel trailer about 2 times per month to our local desert.

Any input would be appreciated!

Thanks.

welcome to df... check out the drews brew thread tacked to the top of the forum... good for 1~3 mpg, next up is the rokktech (sp??) crank sensor $70 bux, then you could go for a drop in AFE filter. those are cheep mods that would help mileage. My '05 2500 QC 4x4 gets 14~17 depending on driving style...

New Here! Cool looking place.
03 3500 Quad Dually 4x4, 5.9L 24V, 4spd auto 48RE,stock tires 235/17's, 4.10

42,000 miles. Bought her brand spanking new. Great Truck! Does my 74 3/4ton Sno-fighter proud. She was great also. Both beat the F-250 I owned in between.

My mileage sucks! About 11-12. Itell people when they ask, I didn't buy her for gas mileage, but I'm sure I can do better.

I tow a 6,000 lb work trailer around 1/2 the time but the mileage doesn't seem to change. Most likely because it couldn't get worse.

I don't use any additives, but seems I need to change that way of thinking.

Any suggestions?

Thanks ahead of time.

Default RE: Fuel Mileage

i just calculated my milage...and it turned out to be 21.64 mpg, 90% hwy, 10% hot rodding....and that's with 35' tires at a speed of 70 mph turning 1800 rpm's with a 5 speed manual and a 5 inch lift. Ext. cab 4x4...the heads up said 19 mpg but hand calculation is so much more accurate

PS. i had my speedo recalibrated to make up for the tire size, 630 miles on a tank of fuel from bozman, mt to jamestown, nd...before my low fuel light came on with a 36 gallon fuel tank, ended up putting in 32 gallons of #2 diesel w/o any additives
