i've got an '06 with 8k on the clock, going to change my fuel filter and was looking through Geno's site and they offer the regular filter (10 micron) and a premium filter (7 micron). any reason why or why not i should spend the extra $3? all the fuel i get seems to be of good quality and from newer stations.

 

Trucks built after either May or June of 2006 must use the 5 micron fuel filter per TSB from Dodge. All of us are switching out to the new filter as it filters much better then the old 10 micron can.

 

Drew, thanks for the great info. I just got a fuel filter yesterday for my '99 2400 turbo diesel. It's been running rough intermittently. Also changed the air filter.

Unfortunately, I followed the owners manual before I found this info, purged the water, and then started the truck. I thought it was supposed to run for a short time. It ran briefly (maybe 15 seconds) then itdied. Now it is turning over, but not 'firing'. If I try to purge it, there is not any fuel in the water/fuel filter. Any suggestions on how to get it running?

After it's back to square one, I am going to follow your directions and change the filter.

Hey Drew it was easier than I thought! Thanks for the info!! 1 question though, when I pulled the filter/lid out, there was still quite a bit of fuel in the filter housing. Is this normal? Fired right up after letting the pump do it's thing. At 10,579 miles no water in fuel to speak of, about 4/5 little droplets. Now to finger out them step bars....

 

older fuel filters look like oil filters that screw on below the intake manifold. they may even have a water sensor in them.

 

Just got a new filter from the dealer but do not know what micron size it is. Does anyone have the Mopar numbers for the different filters. My truck is from Feb 06.
