the silencer ring is a piece mounted on the turbo that reduces the turbo whine. if you yank it, you'll hear it much better.

 

does it improve performance or just give it a better sound? Like back in the day when we used to flip the top of the air cleaner on the carb engines?

Taking it out is for sound. I don't think in will increase mpg.

Just changed my fuel filter via the info on this site. It went very smooth, I have 13,000 miles and feel good that I was able to do it myself. I bought the filter from Napa but I am going to place an order with Geno's garage.

I finally changed my filter today 10,200 miles and it was almost as black as Steves was. It was a breeze to change out and I had no problems starting it after the change [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

First off, Drew: Mucho thanks on the DIY info. Quite good and detailed. Did it without any hitches. Didn't have the socket you mentioned but a 30 MM socket I did have worked just fine.

Steve, my filter was somewhat darker than yours. Still need to do the priming sequence that Drew described. Again, I'll let you know how it all went.

Priming sequence worked perfectly. But the second lift time after bumping the starter was QUITE A BIT longer than I expected. Around 20 - 30 seconds. Was beginning to worry! Guess I need to learn to RELAX.

I checked to see if there was any water in mine today(4600miles) and nothing came out, no fuel no nothing. Did I not leave the valve open long enough? I counted to 10 by thousands??

 

check the hose and make sure a dirt daubber didnt build a nest in it.

 

Tomorrow's the day that I will be attempting this with my friends help.
