Default DIY Maintenance: 05 & later grease fitting

as many of you have noticed while the hood is up there is a sticker pointing at the front drive shaft about a grease point. this only applies to the 05 and on 4x4's.

the Double Cardan joint has a needle point grease fitting that needs to be lubed every 4K miles and hopefully this will help ya'll out.

the first pic is the fitting itself, the second is the gun fitting needed to grease the point.

Now is this an 05 item or a 600 series motor item?

05 and later trucks is what this applies to. 04's and earlier do not have this joint.

Drew,

Thanks a million as I have been told twice now while having the oil changed that this grease fitting was not there. Also the part number for the NAPA needlepoint adapter was a big help to make sure I was buying the correct one

yes. the whole front end is still locked in and rotating even though you have it in 2wd. both fords and chevy's have the ability to disengage the front axels so they are not rotating. Dodge is always locked in.

Drew,

Being part of the U joint is in the way and a cross member under the shaft how can I tell if I am getting grease in the fitting. Is it easier if the truck is on a hoist and me not on my back on the floor.

the best way I know how to get to it is to jack up one front wheel and turn it till you can get the best acess to it
